I had an email today 18/04/14 from go out doors to say that they would no longer be stocking calor lite as there supply chain had discontinued them de not say if this was calor discontinuing them. malc1945
Go outdoors haven't had them for a while. We got ours direct from calor they said shortage in winter due to people not swapping their bottles but I don't know why there is such a shortage of the bottles though. Apparently you can get them refilled at certain places rather than swapped .

I can't imagine Calor would be discontinuing them, there's too many cylinders out there to do that. I'd imagine it's more a case of Calor keeping them only for their own suppliers due to the current shortage of cylinders.

??? How would that create a shortage? If people already had Calor Lite bottles then they would be exchanging them for a full Calor Lite cylinder that the dealer had i.e. exchanging a Calor Lite cylinder for another one isn't going to free up any cylinders, only people handing them back in or exchanging for a non Calor Lite cylinder.
I have three lites but will not give them mine until they can supply I would rather get a heavy weight go e bay for a couple quid and get that refilled . ps I even e mailed calor in Febuary to see there input on them they sent a auto reply and said they would contact me still waiting. malc
Having tried all local suppliers of Calor lite to no avail, I decided to call Calor head office (in March)....they confirmed that there was a national shortage of the bottles but they were having a new batch manufactured and they would be ready early April. I have since managed to exchange 2 calor lite bottles but was also told that Calor were changing their exchange policy and lites could only be exchanged for lites and not any 6/7 as they did previously.

Im keeping hold of mine and refillimg them for £8 a time!
Then you're one of the people that's causing the problem. Too many people illegally filling them with LPG on petrol forecourts etc using adaptors purchased online. The bottles are dissapearing and not being returned to the supplier chain hence the shortage,i know one bloke who has 4 of them. WTF you'd need 4 is beyong me.

People hanging onto empty "Lites" because they can't get an exchange.
But that doesn't create a shortage, the shortage already exists due to supply/manufacture of cylinders not keeping up with demand.
If people who currently have Lites can't exchange them for a Lite, because the dealer doesn't have Lites, then that's not depriving the dealer of a Lite cylinder , the lack of cylinders is due to not enough being manufactured to keep up with demand. Because Calor initially allowed people to swap a normal 6kg Propane or 6kg Butane for a Lite, there was obviously a surge of people doing so that has caught Calor out as demand for Lites has obviously outstripped supply.
It sounds like some parts of the country have serious shortages of Lites if some people aren't even able to swap a Lite for a Lite. I've exchanged (refilled) both my Lites in the past few weeks at two different places in East Sussex and they had a fair number of Lites sat there.
