Water runs to the lowest point so make sure you check all panelling low down and under lockers, sinks and beds. Check front, sides, rear, and the roof. Around all windows, doors and vents. Apart from using the damp meter press the panelling to see of it is spongy or crackly which would suggest previous damp which may not have been repaired, especially if it is stored under shelter. All panelling should be hard and totally solid.
Check the flooring near the door especially for any sponginess. Check underneath for corrosion in the chassis or any damage or rot to the wooden flooring. Check the stays to make sure they are bolted on securely and work properly.
Then lastly, check gas appliances, and all electrics and lights inside and out. Cupboard door hinges, etc.
Finally, don't let your heart rule your mind...if you find any damp walk away because what you can see on the outside will only be a fraction of the actual damage within the panelling. Don't let the owners divert your attention or interrupt the progress of your examination. Minor faults can be repaired and a good reason to negotiate a better price.
