We live in west yorkshire and we've had the worst flash flood to date on our housing estate. We're in a cul-de-sac and the current of water runs down the roads into it. This usually isn't a concern until the drains become over-run resulting in a deluge. Garage was under 18 inch of water, power gone, caravan in front of garage might just have been high enough up, unfortunately i wasn't there at the time, only for the aftermath. House has remained dry 'just' and caravan seems ok after checking, mover might be shot though. Bit gutted tonight to say the least!

Dont try the mover until its totally dried out. A lot of electrical stuff will work fine after getting wet.
The real damage can be done when people test them to see if they work before letting them fully dry out.

Is it worth removing the mover and putting it somewhere warm in the house for a while, just to make sure??

We had terrible rain here yesterday evening in Sheffield luckily we live on a hill, but I saw some photographs on Look North that viewer had sent in to Keeley Donovan and they were of a street in Bradford, where the water was just below the doorstep.
Hope you get everything sorted!

Can't believe it was your street, obviously had no idea when I posted. Was this just from the rain fall or is your house near a stream? I have just seen some photos of my friends static at Chapel St Lenords it was flooded all around her caravan and water coming up through shower and toilet.

We live near a stream yes but it's half a mile away down hill from my house!! We live near Queensbury in Bradford so are a good 1000ft approx above sea level! The problem is when the drains become full and back up, all the water from up the housing estate flows down into our Close and builds up into one massive puddle until (a)rain stops or worse, (b) it carries on getting deeper until it drains over into houses behind us! What we need is some kind of emergency overflow gulley to help drain this excess water away when needed!

I had this at a place where I used to live. The residents (including myself) had had this problem for years. One of the houses became uninsurable for flooding after the 3rd time it happened. We got the local MP on the case, also publicity in local newspapers. Plus a load of hassle from local councillors, one of whom lived in the street. In the end, the waterboard put in an overflow tank on a nearby green and it hasn't happened since.
This is unacceptable, obviously the builders haven't given a thought as to whether the infrastructure/drains would cope with extra water. Complain and keep complaining until something is done about it!

We never used to get all these flooding problems before the local council did away with the weekly street drain cleaning.
They just wait for a flood to occur and then clean the drains.

What a nightmare for you - I'm so gutted to see that! Thankfully, where I live, we've not been flooded, but it remains a concern for us all these days. Was your house ok?

The water was just starting to come into the house but thankfully the heavy rain abated so it began to drain away as opposed to filling up! We managed to mop up most in hallway and nothing got damaged. Freezer in garage is finished though, don't think we'll bother with a new one!

We're high up here Nutkins, and on a new estate, so like you we assume we'll never be flooded by a river. It's a sloping site though, and the builders have had to put in two major additional drainage schemes since the houses were finished.
In our row the back gardens slope up and most of the neighbours are digging out and putting in hard paving. What effect that has on their drainage remains to be seen.
What's bizarre is that the site was once a reservoir!
Glad you escaped relatively lightly. In my working life I dealt with flood claims and where serious contamination takes place it's a real long-term nightmare.
