My wife and I with two children started caravaning in April 2013 and have been to some great sites and meet some lovely people. some have mentioned joining the caravan club, but i'm not sure if this would benefit me. Any thoughts welcome.

I would say best to join for a year and see. As others have put it previously the membership fee is v small in comparison to the cost of your caravan.

We joined last sept, having been ccc members in our tenting days. The ccc membership and site fees had gone up a lot so we didn't renew last year. We've now been to 3 cc club sites and one local rally. We've not tried any CLs though. We may well keep the cc membership as currently have mayday breakdown (directline wouldn't cover our length of caravan).

Join, give it a try for a year and see what you think.

We're starting to think CC club sites might not be for us apart from off season. In our view they're a safe bet, manicured, very well kept, very clean toilet blocks. However we like the variety of tents and caravans, and the sense of space available on other campsites. We were disappointed on the rally we tried, excepting it to be more sociable than going on our own but no other families spoke to us until we were getting ready to leave. All that said it really does depend on what you like and where you want to go.

We're likely to renew our ccc membership.

Hi, I would recommend joining as you can get members discount off pitch fees, their sites are not the cheapest but facilities are the best and wherever you choose to go you will know what to expect. prior to joining caravan club we used green flag as breakdown cover. we now use mayday cover through the club £17 per year cheaper and better cover as its double journey and still operated by green flag

We are similar to you as we only started in 2011 and also have 2 children (1&3). We have been members of the CC since we started and also have stayed at independant and C&CC sites. Overall I would say the membership is excellent value and the sites are (IMO) some of the best out there. Our experience of the C&CC sites is they are very hit and miss, some are excellent and well kept and others not so good. We have stayed at 8 different CC sites and all have been of a high standard with modern and well maintained toilet blocks. We also like them as many of their sites have family washrooms that have a proper childs bath, ideal with a 1yr old. I agree that they are a bit more "manicured" than other sites but we don't mind that and like the safety of the sites. We have found that going away out side of the school holidays that there aren't many families with young children on CC sites and it seems to be more older couples........the C&CC seems to attract more families for some reason. We are planning to also join the C&CC next year as well as we are considering a seasonal pitch with them. The monthly CC magazine is also great and worth the membership! The only negative I can say about the CC is that they don't let you book grass or hardstanding in advance..........I personally find this very frustrating as with 2 young children we prefer hardstanding and have been caught out a few times having to pitch up on soggy, boggy grass pitches when all the hard standings have been taken!!

Hi, we've been in the cc for nearly 12 months. I'm not going to take up our renewal as we haven't used their sites at all. Its not that I have anything against them, although a couple we've looked at are a bit regimental for us. We hsve found the sites we like to use are not with either of the clubs. Ithink it just depends whether you will use the club membership. I have just renewed my caravan insurance and had a quote off cc. Being a member didnt reduce the cost, and I found a better deal elsewhere.

I think it depends on what type of sites you like when our boys were young we always went for a site with a swimming pool and fishing pond . But as they got older we look for surfing . Etc
Then joined both clubs.
With both clubs you always know what your going to get .
Have a look at their web sites and read reviews of sites also some of the sites have films of them on you tube .

We have been members of the 'Camping & Caravanning Club' since 2005 but not renewing this year mainly because of their new booking structure which is based more in line with international bookings such as air fares and holiday packages etc. I much preferred their old style booking system where you can look in their sites book and calculate how much exactly your pitch fees are in the selected three season rates rather than have discounted offers at certain sites as you may have already pre-booked an independent site elsewhere to guarantee a place. We were considering joining the 'Caravan Club' instead as we have been told by many over the past years that their sites are much better in comparison but the only real way to find out is to join for one year first to see whether it's personally beneficial or not then decide the year after if you want to re-join or not.

We were with the C&CC for many years when we were tent campers. We moved to the CC when we changed to a trailer tent a few years ago and can say that, of the dozen or so club sites we've used, all have been of a higher standard than the C&CC.

We personally do not mind what some call the "regimented" look of the sites and have never had a problem with noise or other unsocial behaviour, unlike some non-club sites we have used.

I would certainly recommend giving them a try.

We are members of both but may cancel the CCC next year and just keep the Caravan Club membership ,haven't used many of the main sites this year but have been away most weekends staying on CL,s .in our case not needing a facilities block the CL network on it's own is worth the membership fee.

We have been members of the C&CC for 20 years. Whilst I understand comments about the booking structure, when you go online and book, the price is fixed then so at that point you do know how much you will be paying.

We may be joining the ranks of caravan owners soon o may look at CC as well. A motor home owning friend of mine is in both and says it gives a good variety of sites. I have seen 3 CC sites, 2 that were next door to C&CC ones that looked "regimented" and my local one, which is wooded and looks pleasant to stay on, although we obviously wouldn't camp 1 mile from home!

We use the C&CC travel service every year for our European holiday, and have used their travel insurance when booking a city break with Thos Cook as it worked out better value.

All in all I would say join one or other, try for a year as suggested, perhaps camp at Blackmore or Sandringham where club sites are next door, so you can have a nose at the other side? Maybe try the other club the following year. It maybe you find you don't like either.

Whatever you do enjoy!

we rejoined last year after a 10 year gap...We have only managed to get on two sites in a year due to being full onn the dates we wanted...seems that popular sites get booked up early - not an option we have as we both work and have to get days off at the last minute. So we are not renewing....

i have found the C&CC fees now to be substantially higher then the CC.

Facilities are well past their best with 10 amp hookup etc. was in one site in Ayr that had 8 site managers !
