Hi Ferretlady, I too have the 1997 4 berth Bailey Ranger.
The fire runs on Gas or Mains Electrics and the fan (blown air system) runs on 12v electric.
So when you are not on EHU you can still have the gas heating on and blown air from the 12v fan.
On EHU you have the choice of either gas or electric heating.
With either gas or electric, whether you choose to use the 12v fan or not is up to you.
The 12v fan can also be used on its own to circulate cold air on a hot summer's day.
The heater, when used on gas, is far quicker to get up to temperature and if used in conjunction with the fan unit, it is thermostatically controlled from the control panel.
I do not know how much gas the fire uses as we have only been using this van this year and it has been too warm, so far, to need any form of heating.
For safety sake, because we have two dogs (see gallery), for night time heating later in the season, we will be using a small oil filled radiator for overnight heating.
