We bought a new Swift yesterday and I felt really happy about it.
It was a demo model and advertised on the dealer's website. We went over specially to look at it.
This morning whilst getting insurance quotes I couldn't remember seeing the wheel lock which on the advert for the caravan, it said it had. It also said it had Tyron Bands.
We have since found out the dealer had made a mistake and it didn't have either. We bought the caravan as per description. We never gave a second thought to the fact it wouldn't be correct.
We spoke to the dealer and he said as we had got such a good deal on the caravan they couldn't let us have the Alko wheel lock costing £250 or even let us have one at cost or give us a contribution towards one.
I don't want to fall out but it has put a damper on the whole experience.
We were told that if we weren't happy they would give us our deposit back.I do accept it was a genuine mistake but somehow the attitude 'take it or leave it' has made me feel as though I'm in the wrong for even mentioning it.
I hate hassle of any kind and we like to have a good relationship with dealers.
We seem to have got off on the wrong foot before we have even picked up the caravan, I'm worried already, I just hope we don't find any faults.
Well its their mistake so in my book they should suffer the loss and give in to you.But if that is their attitude now, imagine going back with a fault.I would bite the bullet, getmy money back and buy elsewhere. No shortage of new expensive caravans. But it seems we do have an abscence of decent dealers

Difficult to call. Depends if it's a bargain, are you happy with the price? There's no sentiment in business so if it's the right price get it bought and have nothing else to do with the seller. If you're having second thoughts , walk away, it's not the one.
the dealer has admitted his mistake and offered you your deposit back, and as you say its a very good price.
sounds fair to me.
As above if your not happy see if you can find a better deal??
surely if it was advertised with those extras and sold as an ex display/demo model the sale of goods act still applies. I would take it up with trading standards and then walk away if the won't play ball. As far as I'm concerned if an item is advertised with the extras I would definitely expect to have them in the deal no matter what price I paid.
2 separate issues here. The dealer made a mistake on his advert & stated extra were included in the deal. When he realised his mistake he offered to cancel sale & return deposit. He can do this quite legally. I guess the offer had little enough profit in it already to make it not worthwhile to include the extras as a goodwill gesture.
The second issue is that it's possible the advert was a misrepresentation & you can report it to trading standards, it is for them to decide whether or not to take any action.
It will not get you the caravan with the extras at the previously agreed price though. I would have another friendly chat with the dealer, not just the salesman but try to involve somebody more senior & say how disappointed you are that extras are not included as promised in the ad.
After that its your choice whether to buy it if the dealer will not budge, if you think its still a good deal then it would be silly to lose it over a principle.
We had no part exchange so managed to negotiate a good deal. The caravan is a 2014 model and the layout is not available in the same range this year. We pushed the boat out and paid more than we intended but it ticked all the boxes. The dealer is also not too far from home.
We have been offered our deposit back so as millermicm says we can take it or leave it.
We are definite going to take it as we love it but even a wheel lock offered at cost price would have been acceptable with us.
Anyway the edge had been taken off the excitement of getting a new van and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it does not develop any major faults.
An advert is not a contract to buy and the Swift come with the receivers as standard, but not the locks so an easy mistake to make.
However if it is actually stated in the contract in writing that the ALKO locks are supplied, then the dealer has to supply them at their cost.
You may be able to buy the lock second hand on eBay so worth a look. Don't let it dampen your enthusiasm for the caravan.
BTW which model did you buy?
The Alko have 35 different numbers and we need a number six and it has to be registered with Alko. One may come up.
We have bought a Swift Conqueror 565 2014 model. Love it.
To be honest those alko locks are a right royal pain in the neck, difficult to fit if you have no mover and bloody expensive. Why not see if the dealer would sot you out a decent wheel clamp, as they are less expensive.
Although doesn't alter the fact the bits originally advertised are not with it.
If it's the van you really want at a good price, I'd go for it

Whilst on the misrepresentation issue, we bought a Swift Challenger last November, it was advertised as a 2012, the other day we noticed the decals next to the sunroof was peeling and lifting. This morning my Husband phoned the dealer to tell them what had happened, and the guy on the phone said " it won't be covered by Swift as it is a 2011 van"
We have the ticket they had in the window and that clearly says Year..2012!
Dealer says it is 2012 spec but was bought in 2011, so surely it should have been advertised as 2011?
Anyway Dealer has agreed to replace the decals free of charge as a good will gesture.
Thanks everyone.
OH also says they are a pain in the neck as we have had one before. The insurance quote was £35 more without one. Never mind it's swings and roundabouts.
The dealer could have budged a little bit but he didn't. We love the van, that's the main thing but still feel a little peeved.
We will look around for a second hand wheel lock as it will be for our own peace of mind.As it already has an alarm, tracker and hitchlock(our own)you may well wonder why we need one.
Too many thieves around wanting want we have worked long and hard for!!

You have a very nice caravan. Be aware that the alarm is a Tracker Retrieve. You have to notify them if the caravan has been stolen. IMHO not worth the subscription and you are better off having a Phantom tracker installed.
If you take the cost of the annual additional £35 over several years then it amounts to the cost of the ALKO. They are good for peace of mind but not essential.
Dealers attitude stinks...why not name them on here? i wouldn't want to deal with them so unless you have saved thousands of £'s tell them to stick it and go somewhere else...i'm thinking that if you ever have a problem with your new van what is their attitude going to be then ? i wouldn't want the worry !!!!!
