Thinking of changing tow car and am torn between For Mondeo 2.0 TDci Zetec 140bhp (2013 / 13), and a Peugeot 508 SW 2.0 Active (estate) (2014 / 14). Any ideas?
Been on towsafe website and they are both equally as reliant to tow our swift accord 490.
I would avoid the Peugeot as they are known for having electrical problems and can be costly to repair. Personally I think the Mondeo is the safest choice plus more caravanners use them as towcars in general in comparison to Peugeot.

Thanks Tango55,
See your tow car is a V50 diesel? How well does she tow? what weight is your caravan?
Mine has the D5 engine which is the 5 cylinder diesel engine that Volvo put in their XC70 and XC90 4x4 vehicles. It has 180 BHP with 258 Lbs.ft. engine torque but mine is the manual 6 speed gearbox version. The kerbweight is 1568 kgs. and solo does around 55 mpg. on the motorway.
My caravan's MTPLM is 1300 kgs. so the match is around 83%.
It's a really good towcar and the best car I have owned so would be reluctant to change it.
Nothing wrong with modern Peugeots, no electrical problems any more than Mondeos. You might as well say Mondeos have flywheels that fail in 60k miles. They certainly did a few yrs ago but one would have thought they would have fixed it by now.
All modern cars are much of a muchness now. Most important is main dealer service history. What modern diesels do not need is missed services.
The Mondeo is a much underrated car and would be my preference over a Pug. Having had many over the years as company cars and now working for a German co who insist on bmw or Audi I don't believe the Germans are any better
I'm afraid you won't find many diesels that don't suffer with DMF issues so that might be abit unfair, French cars in my personal and professional opinion are complete tosh, no build quality, for that it has to be German although the fords and the vauxhalls of this world are the bridge between the two
Op has a choice of Belgian made car or French made car, or go for a Spanish made car, '14 on Mondy. 2.0litre diesels in both cars made in same French factory though, engines must be c**p so don't get either perhaps? Better idea maybe move upmarket to Eastern European build like Skoda or Audi.
Or maybe stick to a good solid British made car like Toyota or Nissan?(owned by French rubbish Renault[or do Nissan own Renault, would that be better?]that make vehicles for Mercedes in their French factory)....
Go for the mondeo, they dont fall apart like pugs! Mondeos did special business versions sometime in 2013, mines a special, titanium x business with leather, sat nav, etc and I do like it!
I had a v50 a while ago, the 2.0 diesel was quick but unreliable, boot was too small and a bit twitchy towing the van compared to my next cars, an accord and the mondeo.

We bought a Peugeot and only kept it for a few months lovely car but not good for towing .
I have had 3 mondeos . One 2.0 lr tdi the next was a Mondeo tdi estate lovely car . We now have a tdci 2.2 . Great tow car.
I would buy another Mondeo if I was changing to tow with .
I had a 2.2 Tdci Mondeo Estate (Mk3) and currently have a 2.2 Mondeo Hatch (again Tdci Mk3). Both are great tow cars. The estate had self levelling suspension also. So another Mondeo vote from me.
