In the 23 years that I gave been caravanning I have used CC sites almost exclusively, I have also had a European van for 15 of those 23 years. My present van I have had from new for the last 13 years. I have never been asked to put my van in the wrong way round on the pitch to suit anyone., though I have many times done so in order to admire the view.
You will have no problems with a European van on CC sites.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Most CC sites want the van in the middle of the pitch so you would just have the car and awning if you have one the other way round to everyone else.
The only problem I have seen is when the van is to the left of the pitch,if you put it on the right so your door opens on to the pitch it may not be 6m away from the next unit as it is supposed to be.
On the private site we use in Cornwall the vans are on left of the pitch up to a fence and would be right next to the van on the neighbouring pitch if you put yours to the right and this particular site does not allow it.
Its worth checking on any site.
I have seen loads of European caravans and motorhomes on CC sites - some UK owned and some from a lot further afield. Cannot imagine any of them have been refused admission to any CC site because the door is on the 'wrong' side. Some sites do however have a length restriction due to pitch size. On a similar note there has been a debate in the CC magazine regarding pitching etiquette - should you park car/caravan/awning or should it be caravan/awning/car? My feeling is pitch up as requested by the warden and enjoy your time camping whatever way round you park

Ooh....
Does that mean I can get a euro van without worrying pitching at a CC site....??
Yes most certainly, it is what I have had for the last 13 years without any problems on CC sites. Don't ask about the CCC though.

As "janus" has experienced, we for 12 years had no issues but last year with the CC waking up to the relevance of separation distances where awnings might be habitated spaces, things have not been quite as much a non issue.
I have been asked to pitch nose in on certain pitches if I wanted to put up an awning; or to pick a pitch with wider separation or corner location where a healthy distance occurs.
There has been some debate on the CC forum on this continental issue with some very unpleasant contributions from some who vehemently don't want an awning facing theirs. Thankfully, in the 13 years I have never met anyone who expressed or hinted that they held that view to us on site.

Now you're really making me think of changing our van....
But when it comes to awnings, as we just bought a sun camp porch awning last year, do they just fit as normal, except on the opposite side....??
Yes

We had a French caravan for 5 years with the door on the opposite side, never had a problem on any site, Certainly no problem on either CC or C&CC sites. Sometimes the easy solution is to pitch nose in (easy with a motor mover). Only site that would not allow this was the C&CC site at Derwent Water in the lake District where sudden flooding was an issue and they insisted that we pitch nose out. Fair enough.
And for us, the only caravan we've had that didn't leak within a year from new was the French one. Go for it.
The other option is of course to take a look at an Adria. Continental van, but with British layout for the door!

Could you send a link if possible of the 'discussion' on the CC web site please...?
Just done a search there myself and can't find anything there...

You poking me with a stick to 'think' about going for it...?
Only problem I can see with it though is, one of the legs on the A frame at the front has a slight bend in it. I think he's turned too tight at some point...
