Woildnt that be discrimination and therefore illegal?
Just like the bakers who refused to bake a cake for a gay couple.

The sites that wont take them quote that they are too large for the pitch and the door is on the wrong side.

Not sure that would protect them from the equality act.
Can you name one of these sites?
The CC mention a shipping length of 9mtrs being considered the point at which the site should be contacted for confirmation and their own website shows a caravan with the door on the right hand side.

If they had a sign up saying 'no travellers' then they are nicked.
A sign at a UK campsites stating 'no Hobby/LMC'
Or a sign at a French campsite stating 'interdite double essieu'...
Is not illegal in either country because neither country has laws regarding discrimination against certain makes of caravan. Any campsite can refuse admission to camping equipment it does not consider suitable for its site.
The few campsites that impose these bans are in areas where large extended family groups are known to gather for camping trips, so they have a very specific reason for doing it.
Having said that, the caravan being considered by the op is an average sized single axle caravan so no doubt he can buy it & use it with confidence. He needs to check the floor corners for rot though as older Hobbys are prone to this.

As always we disagree.
Refusing to provide a caravan pitch to a person with an entirely normal caravan on the grounds of the make of caravan they are towing is just as illegal as refusing to decorate a cake because your religion does not agree with same sex marriage.
Double axle is different as it chews the ground up more than a single axle caravan.
If one turns up with the single axle Hobby caravan physically the same as all the other caravans on the road and on the site and they refuse access to a pitch, the grounds for refusal had better be a darn sight better than you are suggesting or we will have another case going thru the courts.

I wouldn't want to be the one bringing that case to court. Very expensive and hard to prove. There will always be a reason to ban a particular piece of hardware. It's not the same at all as banning a particular type of person.

Double axle is no different, most sites insist on parallel parking for fire regs so there is no 'chewing' to be done.
We've a twin axle and I've never been refused at a site.

Totally agree with Alan (Bnmuk). I have had mine for over 10 years and have never had an issue due to make, model, size or door orientation. Yes, years ago insurance was difficult to get, but not now.
Similarly, my next van will also be a Hobby.

Nonetheless Mobi, those are the reasons for sites banning, at their discretion, those makes or types of caravan, I know, you don't, or at least you didn't until I posted it on here.
It is fairly obvious in both UK & France who would be undesirable users of these caravans which is why campsites reserve the right to refuse entry to camping equipment & parties that they feel would be would not be suitable for their sites.
The reason these sort of 'anti Hobby' threads are so daft is because anybody who is obviously a normal touring carvanner arriving at a site in a normal sized German built touring caravan in the UK or a UK reg twin axle in France would not be refused entry entry because they are not the sort of 'customers' who are likely to lay waste to the site.
As for your constant references to 'legal action' Mobi, any lawyer with tell you it is the person that has to be discriminated against not the caravan. If you are LGBT or a member of a specific minority group you might have a case for being turned away, but 'normal' with the 'wrong' sort of caravan, case dismissed I'm afraid. Caravans are just boxes, they cannot instigate litigation.
You will probably find site owners have consulted real lawyer on this not forum lawyers.

Why do you find it impossible to stay on the point instead of drifting off to seek to prove your point I wonder.
There is a big difference between discriminating on type of caravan and on make of caravan.
There is no difference between refusing to admit a person wearing a turban or one towing a particular make of caravan to your site.
They are both discrimination and illegal under UK legislation.
No one could have guessed the court would find in favour of the hotel owners who refused accommodation to two gay guys and no one guessed the courts would uphold fhe cake shops 'offence' although this is to be appealed I understand.
Laws change and the apparent discrimination you mention may well be next to be challenged, who knows.
Certainly neither you or me can guess what' sext and even if I am not legally qualified, I am entitled to my opinion .

At the end of the day a site can refuse entry for whatever reason they want. Just as some do with banning commercial vans.
The Hobby issue I believe would apply more to twin axle hobby vans ( not all twin axle vans ) due to the association with travellers.

Flippin 'eck, Mobi you can only legally not discriminate against people & then only for very specific grounds, ie ethnicity/sexual orientation/religous.
Site owners are free to refuse, large single sex groups, drunks, dogs, cats, vans, caravans(for any reason, colour, make, age, etc, etc,) tents, kids, anybody wearing unsuitable clothing, whatever, it's their site, their rules.
If the site owner would not refuse to admit these same people, individually, sober, without livestock, with different camping equipment, no kids & wearing nice clothes, then a no win, no fee lawyer would not be interested.
If you were daft enough to waste your own money instigating vexatious litigation because you thought your poor ickle biddy caravan had been discriminated against then good luck to you.....
