Our next door neighbour regularly feeds the pigeons. Our caravan is stored on our drive well behind the building line. Unfortunately our neighbours TV aerial which is on the edge of her property is a roosting post for up to twenty pigeons at a time waiting for their food. The side of our caravan regularly becomes covered in pigeon poo.
We often hose it down but have now noticed one of the decals has been damaged.It is a new caravan and needless to say we are upset,
We have priced a new decal( just part of the side strips) from Swift and were shocked to be quoted £175 for an end bit. Where on earth do they get their prices from?!!!
We have asked our neighbour to stop throwing out bread for the pigeons but she continues to do so. She is a lovely lady and thinks the pigeons will starve if she doesn't feed them.
We are racking our brains now to see how we can approach her again without upsetting her.

Try to talk to her again and explain the damage that the pigeons have caused to your caravan, it is difficult to stop people continuing to do things that they think are necessary. Are there any options in moving the Ariel to another location or covering your caravan. A difficult situation to avoid upsetting a good neighbour, keep trying to talk to them on good terms.

I think the local council can get involved here if it is a serious problem. Yrs ago near where I live a woman was in the end subject of a court order from the council stopping her feeding birds due to nuisance to neighbours as you describe.

If she does not recognise this as a problem then speak to the council. It is about degree though, it has to be more than just chucking a handful of crumbs out once a day.

Google 'getting rid of pigeons', plenty of humane ways like sprinkling pepper for example.

Is her aerial overhanging her boundary? If so ask her to move it as it shouldn't be. You have a right to remove anything overhanging the boundary line as long as you offer them the property afterwards.

There are plenty of devices for scaring pigeons.  Kites, dummy owls and spinners etc.  I find that some plastic bags on a length of string is enough to keep them from eating my broccoli and other garden vegetables.

Try a kite attached to a flag pole on the front of the 'van to scare them away.

The aerial doesn't overhang the boundary.The breeze just blows the 'poo' our way.
We thought about using a flag pole with a flag or something on it but the aerial is very high.We have a deterrent already on the garden house in the garden. It works as it keeps the pigeons from there,

I would put a cover on the caravan if possible. Maybe some sort of fence/wind break/tarp/Cyprus Leylandii to stop the poo hitting the caravan?

Perhaps if you explain to your neighbour what is happening to your caravan (and what it's costing for the damage), she might do something about it, but probably not.

Just google (Pigeon scarer) and you will find loads of gadgets on line to scare them off
Or ring your local pest controller for advice.
Doing it this way you dont even have to involve your neighbour.

I'd go for some sort of cover. Even if it is just a tarp put over the side of the caravan that gets the worst of it.

I would mention it to the neighbour again and then offer her the compromise of paying for a cover for your van and the new decals rather than feeding the birds.

Alternately start keeping a bird of prey


Seriously I would buy a cover and then show your neighbour the damage to the cover.hire a bird of prey

Thank you for your suggestions. OH told her nicely this morning and she says she will stop feeding them for a while.Otherwise we will look for some sort of cover for that side.

If it's a new van can you get the decals replaced under warranty. They don't have to know it's pigeon doos. The decals on our new van started lifting off and they were replaced under warranty.
