We are contemplating joining the Caravan Club, the question I have is can you select a certain pitch from the site plans online when booking.
Assuming it's available of course.
The warden usually marks out on a site plan what is available when you arrive/book in.
Depending of course on what type of pitch you have booked, whether its a pitch without awning, pitch with awning of fully serviced pitch etc.
Depends whats left when you arrive. You can book in from 12.00 midday onwards, so if you arrive late afternoon then the pick of the best located pitches is less likely.

Dont let this put you off, there are heaps of fantastic sites in lovely locations with facilities that are immaculate. We have been members for ages and use their sites very regularly, also a great number of cheap cls for you to use. £40 well spent I reckon. J x
We joined this year and won't be renewing partly for the reason above.
If you enjoy caravaning with friends you cannot guarantee being together.
Also on our last trip to Chatsworth I really got annoyed with the wardens.... Firstly I forgot my hook up lead ( my fault) but thought I'd be able to hire one ..... Oh no we can't hire them it's against health and safety but we can sell you a new one.
So went to buy said new one with debit card ....we cannot take card payments for goods it's got to be cash, so agreed to pay the day after as I was going into Bakewall. Got a phone all about midday when in Bakewall with the family asking if I had remembered I was going to pay!! A few choice words later and when I got back and I won't be using the caravan club again.
Didn't find all wardens like this but it really put us off so I would say don't bother there are plenty of private site out there that would love you business and only to happy to help if anything goes wrong or you forget something.
We went to a private site and had forgot our steps to put awning up. We asked if we could borrow some and they said no they couldn't lend us any because of health and safety. Luckily my daughter had come with us so she got on husbands shoulders as we couldn't reach the zip on our folding camper. (She was 19 so did look a bit strange).
Saying that we have never forgotten our steps again!!!!!
clbewi - No you cannot pick your pitch, I have never found this a problem. What I have found is if you are going with friends and you arrive first get your pitch and bag the one next to it, if that's what your want. Have you visited their web sit for more information.
pencamper - sorry i have forget my hook up lead and the wardens have only been to happy to lend me one. Have also hat the occasion I forgot my awning peg they lent me pegs and the hammer to bash them in with.

The problem you had with the warden and EHU lead is because they can only use the card reader for club business. All the goods you see in the office have previously been bought and paid for by the wardens, including the calor that they sell. The club play no part in it. If they allowed you to pay by debit card then that money would be lost to them as it goes direct to the club, so they have no money to purchase the replacement EHU lead for the next member who forgets their lead.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
They could loan you one the same way as one of my old neighbour's used loan her ladders out,she would sell them to you for a pound on the understanding that you sold them back to her for a pound when you had finished with them.
That way you owned them and she could not be held responsible if you fell off them.
The only problem I can see with lending out hook up cables is just how many do the wardens have hanging about to lend in the first place.
Our cable is always stored in the van so we would never forget it anyway.
We like the CC Club but also found the Chatsworth wardens a bit like little hitlers so we don't go anymore.
