Just been looking at toilet fluid and wanted to get some ideas of what people go for. Do people go for the usual brands like Elsan, Thetford. Or do people just buy the non brands off places like eBay, Amazon ect ect.
Personally I use biological washing tablets. 24 tanks for £4 by using 2 tablets a time. Clicky Much cheaper than fluids and just as effective. Don't put them in your flush tank though

We normally buy either Thetford or Elsan fluids, they often work out cheaper in the long run, as you dont need to use so much as you would with some of the cheaper 'bargain' brands to get the same effect.
Some of the cheap stuff is far less effective at breaking down solid matter and keeping the nasty smells at bay, you also risk damaging your seals on your toilet by using a fluid that is of non-discript chemical makeup and has not been tested for the possible long term effects it may have on the seals and plastics of your toilet cassette.

We like Elsan but for now we are using Blue Diamond because we bought tons of it when Halfords was selling it off cheaply. That does the job although I'm not keen on its smell.

We use Elsan Organic in both tanks. It's very good and lasts a long time.

The washing tablets wont help break the waste down
Biological tablets do break it down very, very well. Non-bio won't touch it.
The only time we consider using fluids is at the height of summer, and then it has to be Thetford as washing tablets start to struggle with the smell when the temperature is above 30deg+ as does every other fluid we've tried
Washing tablets may also break down the seals on your cassette, causing leaks and nasty smells to seap through into your bathroom, and as they are quite expensive to replace, its just not worth the risk of using washing tablets or anyother kind of chemical for that matter, and as stated above, some household chemicals can seriously damage the onsite digester type systems that are fitted to some of the drainage systems on remote sites and CLs/CSs that campers use.

The Bio laundry fluid I have used for many years, most definitely does break down solids; IMO very much more effectively than the Thetford products I used before the turn of the century did.
With, 8 years use in the present van the original seals show no sign of distress, and before that 6 on the previous van again with no seal issues I feel the warning about bio's potential damage to the seals is unsound. It might be that washing machines also have a few seals and other elastomer components and that incompatibility point was not missed by the chemists.
I have yet to read on the products I buy that the washing machine must not discharge into sewerage systems, of any sort; so again I suspect the chemists blending these for their intended market have addressed that claimed issue.
I have over the years given my business to Tesco, Sainsburys and Waitrose, purchasing their own brands.
Enzyme based bio laundry fluids I have used, and I expect tablets to do a good job as a cassette additive at a fraction of the cost. They keep the build up of calcious deposits very much better controlled than I found over 20 years using Thetfords job specific additive.

I have 3 bottles of Blue left from that sale. I sold loads of it the the site,Last season i asked if they sold it all,Told me that they wasnt going to sell it anymore, because it contained formaldehyde They told me that they are going to stop campers using it on there site,As it this kills the plant,
