We go away next weekend for our first trip with our 5 month old spaniel. Will he be too cold in the awning at night at this time of year?
We've got a crate and awning carpet but I'm not sure if that will be enough. He doesn't make any noise at night, so that isn't an issue. I'm pretty sure he'll end up inside anyway but wondering what the consensus is?

Hi Chaps & Chapesses
We take 2 ESP's with us in dog crate ! in corner with blanket over cage, nice & toasty ! if it's cold we leave heater on till we go to bed

We have a 6month Jack Russell pup, he has a cage with fleece blanket to sleep on, I have made a cover for the cage, its a cosy den. When we take him camping for the first time I will make a warm cover for the cage and make sure the cage is off the floor.
Having said that, he will probably sneak under the bottom of the duvet!
Someone has posted a photo of a large dog cage with a hard top which sits in the awning
Multi purpose use. I think the photo is on camping set up forum.
A fitted cover would be better than a blanket. I put a blanket over my springer puppies crate and went in to the kitchen the next morning to find it pulled in and 'sucked' to death. She's been doing it ever since and she's 8 now!
Our Cockapoo sleeps in a crate in the caravan, as that is what he is used to at home. We have bought a Cheeko one for the 'van and he loves it and it can easily be collapsed down during the day. Looking forward to our upcoming trip to the Malvern area and letting him run free on the hills, provided there is no livestock there of course.
I would say its going to be to cold, I would put her crate in the van, then in a couple of months, when it is warmer, it will be less of a change to move her to the awning.
Our English Springer Spaniel has always slept in the van with us. First took her at 10 weeks old now coming up for 2, Personally I wouldn't like to leave her in the awning at night.
We have 2 miniature schnauzers who will sleep in the van with us in their bed. We have a cage and use when necessary which they love anyway. I wouldn't leave in awning this time of year especially. We are off next Friday for a week, lazy days, nice doggy walks and a few trips to the pub a necessary .
Our miniature schnauzer sleeps in her crate in the awning. However I have made a fitted crate cover out of breathable awning carpet and we top that off with a large fleece blanket at this time of year, also leave a small oil filled rad on in winter. However if frost is forecast the crate comes into the van. she doesn't sleep in bedroom at home and don't want her to get the habit on the van.
Our 7 month old puppy is crate trained and we have a soft canvas crate for the van. We park it between the two sofas we use as single beds so it not in the way and fold it away in the boot during the day.
If there's not room in the van you sleep in the awning. What's the problem.
We had one that shot under the bed every time I pulled it out to make it up. Made a lovely den.
When they usually have a cage for security at home, we find they don't need one in the van. As long as they have a bed or blanket of theirs they are happy.
With our present set up we sleep on the front beds as singles and the dog sleeps on the floor on a blanket in between, right by the heating ducts.
