Hi all long time reader first time posting so apologies in advance for a first post whine.
I purchased a brand new sterling Eccles 590 less than 2 weeks ago (first van) upon giving it a coat of wax I noticed a bulge in the rear panel. Investigating further I looked inside and on the same side above the bunks there's a gap big enough for a finger to fit in there. This is on the rear wall of the van.
Looking at the roof there's a strip of tape where the rear panel joins the roof, this has all bubbled up.
Looking at the rest of the van in detail I find cracks on the front panel either side of the curve. Whilst there i noticed some poor sealing on the front panel.
Here's a video link to the rear panel

I'll get some images up when I figure out how...
My question is are these problems acceptable? Normal?
1 Join SwiftTalk Swift's own forum 2 Take it back and reject it 3 Don't let the dealer give you "we have to get swift approval" guff Your contract is with him and not swift 4 Good luck

If this was a car or a house you would immediately reject the product, why do we seem to slip into acceptance mode when it is a caravan?
The manufacturers and dealership should be ashamed of themselves.
Surely there should be quality control and a PDI system?
The dealer did the dpi and in hindsight should have picked up the problems but they said all was fine. One can expect a faulty door catch or something but the rear panel worries me as it looks like it has delaminated
I'd take it back if it was my van and it would be either money back of a new van. Looks to me like the back panel hasn't been put on to the van far enough on that side and as a result the sealant hasn't stuck the panel to the wall. That and the cracks in the front panel, really only means that the van needs two new panels in my opinion.
The tape along the top is quite common that it bubbles, but that doesn't make it right, it's very poor quality. After seeing the pic of the cracks in the front panel I'll stick by my first comment and defiantly would be asking for a full refund or a new van
Correct decision and do not be taken in by what dealership tells you what they can/will do to rectify the faults. These faults should have been:- (1) picked up by the manufacturer at "final inspection" AND (2) also by the dealership at "PDI" These issues should not be normal and are certainly not acceptable, although when you read other posts your situation is not unique. I believe you have 30 days in which to reject goods that are not as described, but only if you do not agree to have any repairs carried out first. Stick to your guns, reject the caravan and then take your business elsewhere. Best of luck!!
without any doubt, reject the van, accepting repair could mean the removal of the front and rear panels.
for a new van this is not acceptable.
if your not into hassle with the dealer it would be worth taking professional legal consumer advice.
sorry to be miss trusting but make the van identifiable only to you, you do not want the same van repaired.
save every bit of communication you send and receive, including e mail
I too would reject the van asap. A new van never feels the same when it's been repaired. Please don't let them fob you off with one promise after another. Ask for your money back and you may be able to pick up a new van already on site from another dealer.
