Hi, I am new to caravans and have just bought my first one. I have everything up and running from 240v and gas but can't seem to run anything from the battery. It is a new leisure battery that has just been fitted. Does anyone have any ideas with this please because if I am not hooked up to mains I have no lights or power, etc.
Just because the battery is new I wouldn't take anything for granted so check with a voltmeter what the voltage is as some batteries in stock can be standing for long periods without being charged so it may need a full charge first. Also, whilst the battery compartment was absent of a leisure battery, the terminals may have touched causing a fuse to blow so check this as well. If the battery and fuse prove to be satisfactory then there must be an isolation switch somewhere to switch on the 12 volt power.
What caravan is it? when they're not used its usually for the 12v master switch to be turned off as already said.
Knowing what the van is will also help to identify and work through the possibilities o
Its an avondale dart 515/4 2003
I have had a look in the owners manual and it seems to suggest that there is an inline fuse but I can't find it.
I will have a look at all the other things mentioned. The fuse on the board seems to be ok, not sure if there is a master switch for it or a switch over switch from car to van. I need to have a look for these
There should be a battery condition gauge directly in view usually above a worktop somewhere and if there is power from the leisure battery then this will indicate on the gauge even if the battery is low. If the gauge is showing ZERO (no register) then this is evidence that either a switch hasn't been activated or a fuse has blown.
After checking, the battery condition light is not lit up at all. The 12v switch has an on/off rocker but does nothing, so by deduction does this mean a fuse has blown? I can't seem to get access to the fuses which are under a plastic casing
Link to picture of fuse box. The green light is not on, it just looks like it is with the flash of the camera. This was confirmed in the dark last night
my avondale isnt a dart but there is no main battery fuse in the fuse box.. however there is one under the seat near the battery charger.. its an inline type..
what happens if you connect the car up and switch from van the car.. ??
also even if the battery is dead when on the mains with the charger running you should still get a 12 volt supply from the charger..
Have plugged it into the car with the engine on and still nothing on 12v. Have tried flicking the 12v switch on the fuse board. I can't seem to find an inline fuse, could it be hidden on the wire inside the back of the fuse box cupboard?
plugging into the car needs the engine revs to be higher than 1500 for it to work on the caravan, still think you need to locate the master switch on a panel in the caravan, could be on a wall or above the doorway
