Hi I'm a student at Bangor University doing Product Design, my project is currently on Fifth Wheel caravans and I require information on the type of people that would buy a caravan from fifth wheel. all information is confidential meaning it will stay within the university.
all i require is why you want or bought a fifth wheel ans your hobbies and area that you live. if you could reply as soon as possible that would be great, thanks!
Ben
I don't own one, but I guess someone with the need for a big van maybe spending a lot of time in it, or maybe a site warden.
You would need to use it a lot-to justify the considerable cost of the 5th wheel and associated pickup!

its not just the cost of buying them, but once you have it their are loads more issues such as access, then most pitches just aren't big enough or the ground suitable
the only times I have come across them is in such places as on racetracks etc etc but certainly not used for just general touring
Pointless waste of time TBH mate, just a show thing. Away from Silverstone, I have only ever seen one on a site.
Just get a nice caravan! 30k buys you the "canine genitalia" of caravans, and no, it is not a money thing, I could buy one tomorrow, but why would I. I just do not see the point of them, rather have my old faithful Bailey.
We have a Fifth wheel from Fifth Wheel company and love it, we have had caravans and Motorhomes and find this the best just like a motorhome with its own tanks etc and the plus being you also have the truck on site to use. We have never had a problem on any pitches with our our Fifth Wheeel same length as a twin axle but only 21ft towing length also the whole unit is a lot cheaper than a lot of motorhomes
If we were younger we would buy one tomorrow.
You get far more luxury for your buck than the average British Caravan and they are just so comfortable for long stay visits.
However, at our age now, they would not be a good investment.
I would love a 5th wheel!
I know this is not relevant to the UK where there are width restrictions but I had the opportunity to try one in New Hampshire, USA.
It had slide outs and everything you could ask for, to be honest it was more luxurious and bigger than some one bed roomed flats!
All personal opinion of course but I just thought the layout was so good and you had the benefit of just driving away with your 4 cab pick up.
I looked, still do, just to torment myself at the fifth wheel company based in Wales.
One day perhaps I will take the plunge, buy one and tour Europe, seem much better than a motor home, something else I can't afford!
i have one for 16yrs now . great bits of kit. i tour spain ,portugal ,morocco in it most winters . do uk in summer. caravan sites do allow them on but hardly ever use them . got lots solar so dont need ehu. got ig water tanks etc . can go 3 weeks without filling or emptying .
mine is a proper mini artic conversion . works a treat. gets almost anywhere a m,home can and possibly been up more mountain tracks and further into the sahara than most m,homes ever go.
in spain now been here 5 weeks .
lovely and sunny but only 22c at moment .
I followed a link from a post on here a long time ago and the company selling them hinted that you need to do your own homework to decide if they were legal or not.
I thought a company selling goods that doesnt even know the legal side of it?
I think they found the Parkers towing figures for the Peugeot 106 1000cc or 1100cc at 2.8 tonnes and thought a 5th wheel will go nicely behind that
700kg hitch load. Where is the type approved hitch for that? So many differences between the US and UK you need to be careful.
Hi we have a fifth wheel 27 feet in length and okay to tow with our UP-graded Nissan Outlaw. No special licence needed but my husband is a HGV driver anyway so not a problem. Its beautiful so large and comfortable with a slide out. So much cheaper than a large caravan and no pull along waste carrier to empty :) as its on the mains for all waste. We used to have a Damon Intruder Motorhome but with the fifth wheel you have the best of both worlds as you have a vehicle when you get to site.
They are becoming very poplar and the American ones are very reasonably priced. A full size bath with shower, fixed bedroom a fully equipped kitchen and we haven't been turned away from any sites as some people have been unlucky with this.
