Hi all, we wil be taking our grandson away for a week. We have a side dinnette that makes into a bed. The problem is, we had put a bedguard on it, but he managed to topple over it. We have got a travel cot, but takes up too much room, and the small ones are more for babies! Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone come up with a solution? Any help would be gratefully received!

Hi,
On our last motorhome on the overcab bed was a child net with two snap connectors,no way could a child roll out.
Similar to link below.
Regards,
Greg
When he "toppled over it" was that when he was awake/playing around/trying to get out of bed? That's what happened to my kids the first time they had one.
What does he have at home? If he doesn't have a guard there, then you may need to show him that to get out of bed he needs to crawl down the bed and the get out where there is no guard (rather than try to climb over the guard). That's if you setup the guard in the same way as us - guard is pushed up to the top of bed/headboard area as my children move up the bed in their sleep, so the bottom end of bed has no guard and that's where they can easily get out.
Setting up bed on floor or sleeping between you (though you may not get much sleep!) are good ideas.
If he sleeps well, another idea may be to have a little bumper/ridge that may help keep him in a little. I've not tried it myself but have heard that you can simply use a pool "noodle" held in place at the edge of the matrest with a fitted sheet. Link to an example here. http://www.thekimsixfix.com/2016/07/diy-toddler-bed-rails-from-pool-noodles.html?m=1
Good luck!

Thanks for the replies! He is still in a cot at home. I have been thinking, maybe if i bought an old cot and used the sides off it and attached it somehow?

We just used pillows to tilt the mattress cushion so that they can't roll out of bed, then teach the child to climb out of bed at the end where the mattress remains flat. This is of course for a bed at normal height not a raised bunk.
Hi all, thankyou for the suggestions. Dont think my daughter would be too happy with us using duct tape! Lol. We have bought a second hand cot £15. We are going to take it apart and try and make a cotside rail, like a u shape! Will post pics if successful, if anyone else wanted to try it! Many thanks! X

when you say toppled over it, is it the sort of bed guard that sits under the mattress, we found that the cushions were not heavy enough to stop the mattress and guard falling over when lent on, in the end i fixed the bed guard down with 15mm pipe clips and its solid now.

Hi Paul, yeah it is the type that sits under the mattress. If the cot we have bought doesnt work out, I'll try what you have done! Thankyou!
I used an old cot side and door bolts
