Following my husband's death, I'm selling the van...got it listed in the ad section on here... It's been a tough decision, but I just can't manage it on my own...and it wouldn't be the same anyway.

Booked a package holiday for the summer...what a nightmare! Cost a fortune (school hols) and will be full of 'people'...

sorry to here of the death, however why do you feel you couldn't carry on caravanning? yes it wont be the same, and lets face it nothing will be the same, no reason tho for it to be worse or better, just different, you only have yourself to please now, where to go, when, and who you want to talk to or not, there are plenty of single people out there, go on give it a try, I'm sure it wont be anywhere near as difficult as you imagine

I have a little girl who just doesn't want to do it...I don't have a car that can tow...I hate towing anyway and the caravan is too big. I might think about getting a smaller motorhome or something, but for now we just need to do something different. I went down to make sure it was okay the other week and just sat in it and cried...too many memories, good and bad.

sorry to hear Veema. We too have sold up and found a great compromise - booking pods at campsites around the uk and statics in europe.

No towing and I reckon i'm saving money too. The standard of both pods and statics has improved no end since I was a kid - the aircon in europe a godsend with 2 young girls.

Might go back to France in a static at some point, but Nige was really poorly in France last year and died not long after we came home...I think those memories have spoiled it for us for now. I know I'll miss it though, we had some cracking holidays.

You are doing the right thing getting rid of this caravan Veema. If you do decide to carry on caravanning it needs to be in a different one. Good luck & all the best.

Sorry to hear about the death of your husband veema and unless people have literally been in the same situation as yourself it is hard to advise the best solution as folk deal with bereavement in different ways. However, I tend to agree with the above post from 'Opensauce' that selling the caravan would be the best option as I agree there are too many sad memories to be reminded of. Time is the best healer and I'm sure you will know what's best for you when the time comes but wish you all the best for the future.

Hi Veema,
I am sure this is a very sad time for you and I wish you well for the future.
I agree with above about selling the caravan.
I am sure you will keep in touch with people on here,and who knows, as Tango says, given time you might want to take the plunge at camping again in your own way.You may however find a different form of escape and relaxation.

I have no words. I almost lost my wife a year ago and it was only due to the skill of the cardiologists and heart surgeons that she is here today. I know that I couldn't have continued caravanning without her so I can see where you are coming from Veema. Saying that, a couple of years ago we met a lady in her motorhome who camped on her own after the death of her husband and she loved it. But it was more because he loved it so much that she continued. She felt that she still shared the experiences with him.

Perhaps one day we will meet on a caravan site. I do hope so.

I'm so sorry to here of your sad news.
My sister lost her husband and she didn't drive . she put her van in a c&cc storage site.. They tow it in and out of storage when she want to use it .
She takes her daughters dog with her . She found it a way of escaping . Although I don't think that is the write word. But she said sat at home was terrible and lonely .
It's a few years now and she still uses the van . Yes it is on the same site but she can cope there with out a car l her daughter has to take her and then pick her up . She usually stays for 1 or 2 weeks at a time .
She is 70 . it is hard because they used to go to many places . But she said she will continue while she can . Lots of people speak and have made friends . She said she sees more people than when she's home .

My very best wishes to you at this very sad and difficult time. I'm sure you will return to some type of campsite life at some point, when it feels right for you, but at the moment give it time and get through the best way you can.

Veema, at the moment you are best following your instincts and selling the Van. If or when you decide you would like to start camping again it would probably be best to start afresh. My heart goes out to you at the moment.

So sorry to read your last post Veema and I really feel for you.

There's no right or wrong way of coming to terms with your own personal grief and you can only do what your instinct tells you is right for you at the time. That said, please keep in touch with some of the people on here, as a time may come when you feel able to return to the hobby that you and your husband enjoyed.

I agree also, best to sell it and then see what kind of holidays you fancy in the future. I don't think I'd like to tow a big caravan on my own, although I know lots of people do.
It will take you time to adjust xx

Veema, it's all been said.
I can but add my condolences.
My wife says that she'd not be able to continue camping if I go first (I am ten years older!), and I keep saying to her that I hope she will continue ..
But, you are absolutely right ... you have to follow what your heart tells you at times like these ... the head will take some time to come back into play ... as someone wiser than me once said ... grief is like waves in the ocean ... they keep coming, but with time they are less formidable and you learn some navigation skills ... I'm not sure I'd want my own waves to stop entirely ... but I recognise them ... they are still there.
