Marc, You will get loads of fantastic advice on this and many other topics, but don't feel you need to join either. We joined a club when we started caravanig many years ago, and lasted just one year, we have not been a member of anything, apart from ACSI and ClubVoyage, for years and have not missed out on anything.
Good luck with your caravan. 👍😀

Found so far the CC site standards are really high. Good clean shower blocks and in general - clean and tidy sites etc. So when we go to somewhere new, at least we know what to expect at that site...
Never used C&CC sites, so have no knowledge of them, and so can't comment on them...
There's been many threads on here asking the same question, and I think it's a 'swings and roundabouts' kind of thing.
go on both there web sites and look at the sites and see if any take your fancy.then if any do suit you check out there price for members and non members.you may find that if you book a week at any site and join that particular club you will save the membership fees for that year, plus you get a monthly mag
Both clubs are virtually identical outside their names. Choosing is done by toss of a coin. The main thing they both have in common, is that they are both more expensive to use than 99% of independent caravan sites. The possible 'plus', is when you buy various insurances. Whereby you may get a discount for membership of either. Outside that, membership is 95% a waste of money. I'm in the C&CC, by pure chance, for the aforementioned insurance, and i think it has a better sites book. (though rarely used). One thing i just found out though; because i have now used their - 'cheaper' - by a tenner, online facility to renew, i no longer get the sites book! Though apparently i can buy one for a tenner. See what i mean!
As above, the non-member nightly pitch fee charged by both clubs will amount (over a week) to more than the annual subscription, so you may as well join whichever club runs the site (which, certainly in the case of the Camping and Caravan Club, and, I imagine, the Caravan Club, you could do on arrival.)
If joining the C&CC, you could opt for the online version of the magazine and sites list, which works out a few pounds less than "paper" membership.
Being a family you might be dreaming of going away to club sites during school holidays?
With the CC they allow no commitment bookings from early in December each year, so the reality is you will struggle to find a contiguous slot for a holiday this year in many probably most accessible site.
The 5 van sites are not so affected but are probably not what most families look for.
The C&CC require a heavy deposit so booking later in the year is not quite so challenging.
Both clubs offer great rally like holiday meets, IMO brilliant for families during school holidays.
We are and have been with both clubs for now over 30 years. Both have their pluses and minuses.
Either are worth joining for the CL/CS sites alone. These are small 5 van sites, many in the most beautiful areas. I tend to use these almost exclusively and have found some real gems! They also tend to be around the Ł15 per night mark which in high season is a steal if you have a family!
To be honest the best way to find if you like either clubs is to try them for yourself.
Unfortunately the non members pitch fee it very expensive compared to what members pay with both clubs.
You will get all different opinions, as you would with most things asking this question.
What one person likes, others do not like.
I am a member of the CC but also use non club sites which are not always cheaper then club sites.
It all depends what you are looking for from a site.
The Camp site search on this forum is as good a starting point as any to look at site reviews. Especially for your initial trips..Enjoy!

Hi, we joined both last year as we had come back to caravanning after many years. We kept the C and CC club only this year but to be honest both clubs sites seem very expensive now. We intend to try some CS sites now.
Maybe do as we did, see if you use them and then make a decision when you need to renew.
Seems a lot of lovely sites country wide not belonging to either club which have been to.
So the decision is yours.
We started caravanning in 2013 and haven't bothered with either so far, plenty of nice independent sites to choose from. Saying that if I wanted to go somewhere and the best option in that area was either of the clubs I wouldn't hesitate to join. Kind of a 'cross that bridge when I approach it' strategy.
The certified sites and certified locations do seem really good value but maybe not suited to families as much.

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

just how aren't they suited to families? mine grew up with us using the cls/cs;s and never had a complaint yet~! plenty of space to play, no excessive noise from others disturbing sleep plenty have play areas with swings and stuff, often animals if on a farm (ask permission first tho) in fact it was on a cl that I first learnt to ride horses! and mum and dad could see from the comfort of the caravan!
