hi we are thinking of going for a fixed bed coachman caravan , we have the same van without the fixed bed but I have a back problem so thinking of changing .Our bunks are long so the bed is quite big but just wondering about the cut off part in the fixed ones does it cause a problem making it too small . Sorry if its a daft question
We switched to a fixed bed with a cut off to try out this set up. Its great not having to make the bed, and the front seats get much less wear now...!
However we won't do this again, at 6' 2" the bed isn't quite long enough for me, and its a pain for one partner to make a night time loo visit. OH being a lot shorter has the cut off bit and she finds that ok.
We currently have a Swift with the fixed bed and can say that we don't really notice the cut-off when in bed. The only inconvenience is, as Chrisn7 says, getting out during the night if you are the one on the side by the wall!! We are awaiting our new Coachman, due in April and are changing to the VIP 575 with the transverse bed which should eliminate this problem! This will be our first Coachman so hope it will be ok. Are you happy with yours?

The length of the bed is more important than the cut out. It suprises me that many caravans have bed lengths less than the standard UK double length of 6ft 3". A fairly small redesign would allow 6ft 6" length which would be suitable for most users. Many foreign built caravans have fixed bed lengths of 6ft 6" or up to 2mtres but no current UK built 'vans I know of.
Hi thanks for everyone's advice yes it might tak a bit off the van but we have a full awning so shouldn't be too much of a problem .The O.H has to climb over me now to go to the loo as I sleep on the outside . It's me that's up in the night more not him so that should be OK . Hubby laid on the bed and his feet fit so thinking of going for it thanks everyone 😀
We had a twin axle with an island bed at the rear. No cut off bit at the end, and no acrobatics for night time loo excursions. Because the bedroom was at the rear, there was still plenty of living space.
We have a coachman 560/4 its a side fixed bed with rear bathroom, i sleep on the side with the cut off i'm 5.10ft and dont really notice it.
Its also a very comfy pocket sprung matress
We've had the fixed corner bed but it didn't suit my back problem. Making the bed is a pain and trying to reach the overhead lockers is not easy.Climbing over my OH was not much fun either.
We now have the twin bed model and I love it.
