Anyone know any good caravan trade places in the west midlands we are looking to upgrade our 26 year old Swift Pirouette only have a small budget so need to find used vans about 2006 all the places i have found are miles from us we live near stourbridge so don't really want to go more than 40 miles out.
I presume you have tried all the local dealers. When we wanted another caravan last summer we just went along to our nearest dealer and asked if they had any "trade sales". They don't advertise that they do but apparently they get them all the time, but it's pot luck what comes in and when. Someone had just traded in a very nice Elddis Wisp, and despite it being a 1992 model it looked as if it had hardly been used. It was in such good condition, and ticked all the boxes for us, so we bought it there and then.
My point is that this must happen all the time with dealers all over the country, so if you haven't already done so, just go into your nearest dealer and ask if they have any trade sales. You never know, you just might be lucky. I doubt that there are many dealers that just offer trade sales.

Colin

A trade sale of a 2006 caravan will be for a reason. Ie damp probably. If a dealer takes in such a caravan for trade in then a reputable one will have to sell it spares or repairs. A much older caravan mid 90s may well be ok because main dealers do not want caravans that old on their forecourt whatever condition so they will ebay old trade ins as matter of course.
You will see main dealers adverts for these caravans on ebay. It will be a total disclaimer ie caravan not checked, removed at buyer’s risk, sold spares/repair. This gives them total protection from any comeback from buyer as caravan is not being sold as a going concern although it might be ok with some diy work.
A less reputable cowboy dealer will just sell caravan & hope buyer is unaware of current consumer law which allows full refund within 30days if caravan has any faults. They will do anything to avoid their legal responsibilities.
So op has a choice. Either pay the price for a warrantied caravan from reputable dealer or save money & buy ebay auction of similar caravan preferably from private seller who has looked after it rather than shady dealer turning a coin on a damp wreck he has bought cheap to sell on as dodgy dealers do.
Unfortunately now is bad time to buy as demand & therefore prices will be increasing as season begins. Best time to buy is probably Sept onwards at end of season. If you can use the caravan you have this season & buy then you will pay less.
The dealer I bought mine from has a good reputation in this area, and there is nothing on his forecourt under about £7,500. However, they said that they get trade sales in all the time. I have never seen any on ebay, although they do advertise spares on there. According to what I was told, although it may be just spin, they only take in decent caravans (whatever the age) and trade sales usually go within a matter of days in the spring or summer. They are never put on the forecourt, always out the back, and never advertised. People come in and ask about them. That's how they sell. I had no reason not to believe him.
Hi, we had a van off Chris Jones Worcester, had a look at his website, got 3 under £6K, depends on how small a budget you have. Very nice firm to deal with and has some lovely vans.Or you can do a cheapest first search on Autotrader to see if that throws anything up. Good luck with the hunt.
Thanks all will keep looking don't agree that a van under 6k is normally for sale because of problems though our van is a 1992 which we paid £2000 for 6 years ago and it has been a great van no issues at all with damp etc we just want a fitted bed now.
Read my post again. You asked for trade sales. I explained what a trade sale is & why the caravan being sold as a trade sale from a dealer, ie spares or repair will probably be damp.
As pointed out look for a private sale from an owner or a warrantied sale from a dealer.
Noted we had our van from a dealer but unfortunately they are no longer here I have seen some sold as seen which we wouldn't touch with a barge pole but I do believe there are bargains to be had out there that aren't rubbish we wanted to go to a dealer as we need to part exchange our van don't want the hassle of having to sell it as it is in storage so will need space for new van. We were going to wait until end of season but if we buy one Sept time we won't use it then till the following spring and if there were problems the warranty would be up then.I don't think our budget is too low for a decent van we will keep looking. Thanks for comments didn't mean to offend u.
Not at all. I was just pointing out what a trade sale actually was. Dealers cannot sell ‘as seen’ anymore so it’s either got to be warranted or sold spares/repair unless it’s a cowboy outfit who could not care less.
Obviously you can get a good caravan for under £6k but you are unlikely to get bargains from dealers only from private sellers. If you are paying up to £6k from a private seller ensure you check with Cris that caravan has not been stolen sometime in it’s life & no finance is owning on it. Many dealers do not bother with Cris check either unless large main dealer.
You will also get a much better price for your old caravan if you ebay it than if you trade it in. If it’s in good nick you should get up to a grand for it on an ebay auction this time of yr. probably half that from a dealer who will then ebay it for what you could have got. I can’t see a prob if it’s in storage. Take some good pictures & a good description buyer pays cash & tows away.
The dealer I bought my caravan from sold it verbally as a "trade sale" with no warranty, but in my opinion many warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on anyway. There is nothing on my receipt that says "trade sale", "sold as seen", or "spares/repair". Anything bought from a dealer is subject to the sale of goods act anyway, and I tend to think that "trade sales" are just a way of selling goods that are cheaper/older than the dealer would usually advertise or display on their forecourt. There is no way round the sale of goods act, as far as I am aware, so spares/repair or sold as seen (from a dealer) has no meaning in law. I doubt whether trade sale does either.
Our previous caravan was a private sale off Ebay, but then it was only £500. Still, it did us for 4 years and we sold it the same way for more than we bought it for.

Hi dose anyone know best place to buy a hobby or anyone selling one
Be very wary of buying a Hobby caravan on eBay and it would be good practice to buy from a dealer. Some sites will not allow Hobbys onto the site. Good caravan which is favored by the traveling community.
