Hi all, just bought an Elddiss Crown Sceptre (old but gold lol) I`ve got a question, I haven`t picked it up yet, I do that in March, but does anyone have an idea where I can find out the porch awning size? I don`t want the normal sort of awning, I`m after buying a lightweight porch awning (sunncamp etc) so it would need to fit on the straight part of the awning rail and not go over the "hump" so to speak, Is this correct? or will it still work if it does go round the bend lol, the legs are not adjustable on a porch awning (fibre glass) so would not be able to compensate for the differing heights? Cheers. Rob PS: Wish me luck in March, going all the way to scotland to pick it up from Northampton!!

We have an Elddis Crown Magnum and use a Sunncamp Swift 260 porch awning which works well.

We tried a 300 which was ok but if I remember rightly went part way over the kitchen window so it wasn't flush. I agree that its probably best to wait until you can measure up.

If it's an old caravan with a boat shaped roof then you are not going to be able to use a porch awning on it. The reason is because there is a minimum height required for a porch awning and a caravan with a boat roof is too low. When these type of caravans were manufactured they only ever made full awnings until the flat roof caravan was invented giving it more height which a porch was then an option.

Now that we know that it's not a boat type roof, does the roof go straight along from the back so far then has a slope towards the front end?
If so can you confirm whether the Elddis is a two or four berth caravan as the body will differ in length.

Okay, so really you need to do some measuring up first to see how long the straight part is from the rear end because if the awning roof starts to go down the slope then you will have problems with pooling on the roof in heavy rain merely because the awning side becomes slack at the front end and can't be tensioned identically to the back. I'm limited to a 260 porch awning because of this very reason but there are also other things that you have to consider as well such as checking if the awning is going to restrict access to a toilet service door or side storage service door or the side window. If the awning falls directly in front of a window you are not going to be able to shut a draught out because of the contour of the window and even if you do, it can scratch the window if the pole moves sideways to and fro in windy conditions. If you are condidering a Sunncamp porch awning I think they come in 3 different lengths which are 260, 330 and 390 so you have to measure from the door and then measure along 330 then 390 to see which fits best.

Tango, uploaded the only other pic I`ve got of the van from outside, it shows the door side of van, I didn`t really think about restriction ref windows etc, looking at the pic and taking this into account, I could be restricted also to 260, ah well, thanks for all the comments, i will keep you all informed on progress (or lack of lol) once Ive picked the van up (She`s called Dottie by the way) my good lady wifes idea
