You are correct Gail, Cif has abrasive qualities and is fine on a stainless steel sink. However the depth of paint on caravans is surprisingly thin, they risk rubbing through it with disasterous consequences.

I know a guy that once a year uses flash on his van ok,its an older van but it does take off all the green stuff he gets from sitting in storage over the winter. After that a good coat of polish.
I use CIF to remove black streaks, it's only a quick rub over where the black marks are doesn't require any real elbow grease that will damage paint work but shifts it much better than any black streak remover I've tried. Followed by a wash and polish as normal.
I also use it on all the plastic fascias around the van and it's excellent at bringing them up bright white again and removing ground in muck after a long, wet winter. Also removes yellowing too so gets my vote :)

Our first two caravans many years ago were always cleaned with washing up liquid . They always looked lovely . But would I do this now.?
No way .
i have to ask.. what has changed your thinking.. ???
Washing up liquid has a lot of salt dissolved in it so would need a good rinse especially from metal areas, other than that I don't see a big problem. I'd rather use something specifically designed for the job tho.

I think the finish on modern caravans maybe they are not the same finish . . Also reading that it shouldn’t be done everything inside says don’t clean with this or that . No cif or bleach . But I still do .. nothing else gets it clean
I use auto glym now and bobby dazzler out side . . We have a big problem with flies where we store it . I need some miracle cleaner .
Years ago I used to take my sons camping in France and believe me it was very basic. They, well actually I joined in, use to laugh at people turning up on campsites and cleaning their caravans almost when they arrived.
Guess what the laugh is on me, I recently spent a few hours trying to get off 4 weeks of baked off insects.
I now appreciate why they did it.
He who laughs last .........
