I’ve been looking around for a Hymer and checking the layout diagrams on their website, it appears that only the larger vans have a separate shower and I’m not sure if the smaller vans incorporate one with the toilet compartment?

Maybe someone can help?

A recent one I enquired about had no shower.

I know the caravans are well built and have a good reputation, despite being fairly heavy, but has anyone an opinion on buying? The Eriba Puck and similar are on the small side for us.

Thanks

We bought a Hymer Feeling 430, it is similar in size to an Eriba Troll (our previous caravan). It has a toilet and washbasin, but no shower; we love the van, it’s big enough for us and as it’s a 3 berth we leave the bed made up and use the end dinette if eating inside.   They are quite basic in some ways, no oven(why would I want to clean an oven, hate doing the one at home), but we use a Remoska, I also use a single induction hub.
The build quality is excellent and as ours is a pop top we get very good mileage as there seems to be less wind resistance. We love it..

Thanks, I’ve seen one of those.
Do you know if all the smaller vans are without showers?
We don’t use Caravan shower much or the oven, preferring to cook outside on the Cadac, and use site sanitary facilities but be like to have a shower and oven on board all the same.

Hi
I have just looked online and there is a two berth in Lincolnshire which looks like it has a shower, not sure about an oven. I would phone Jandi in West Calder and speak to Jean or Sandy, they know nearly all there is to know about Eribas and Hymers.   If you can’t get hold of them try Lowdhams, they should be able to help. We actually went to Holland and bought our van (when pound was stronger against the euro).

Thanks,
I’ve seen a few online but either too old or too big and usually 300/400 miles distant! But distance is ok if van is right.

Or in the case of one, which sounded perfect, euro spec, no oven, Euro Sockets and no shower. (it was a 465GL)

We store in France so door on offside is not a problem.
Also considered Holland, and read a blog about the process but the £ is not conducive to a good deal.

I will ask Jandi.

Hope you find what you want. We also looked at a lovely two berth Hobby, I loved the massive fridge and the soft close door in the kitchen!

Oxter, have you thought of buying in France?

As you store there, it might be a better option ... Sterckeman have some really well designed ones (post 2015/16) and they design lighter vans than most ... but other continental makes are good, too.

And, of course, they are designed for driving on the right.

Price-wise, even given the rate of exchange, I think you get better value on the continent.

Thank you Jeannie. I spoke to Jean, and she is indeed well informed although she deals mainly in Tourers - the Puck type. Apparently, shower is optional at point of sale, so some do, some don’t opt for it.

Will keep looking.

Thanks Kelper, yes we considered Holland and France, but the chances of the right van coming up while we are in the areas is less likely than while here. Plus the exchange rate is poor and not looking likely to improve IMHO. Sterckeman might be an option. I will widen my search.

Our Hymer 645 [2008] as our Hymer 545 [2002] have showers integrated wintin the loo area. Both have ovens, a must in our case as fine dining is part of our hobby, and the 645 has the high tower with separate fridge and frezzers. Neither are small. My brother has the smaller one with end bathroom that features a separate loo and shower, together with wash basin.
Hymer don't tend to be standard in that any model can be rather basic and the original buyer opts for any number of cost plus options to be built into their vans. A UK importer had a range built to a pre agreed spec.
An element of the Hymer's high maximum weight is often by UK standards because of good payloads , ours being 280 kgs and 330 kgs, both with the battery accounted for within the MIRO, not an immediate 25 kgs off the payload.

We originally looked at buying in France, found an absolute bargain Eriba Troll. We emailed and asked what we needed to buy the caravan and were told we needed an address in France (we used a friends address) had lots of discussions about condition of van, servicing before sale etc and set off all ready to buy it.   The van was secondhand but in very good condition, we agreed a price and then they told us that they actually needed a bill in our name at a French address (which we obviously couldn’t produce). We came home empty handed, although we had a lovely break. Just take care when buying in France, we didn’t have any problems in the Netherlands thank goodness and I love our Feeling.

I bought my caravan new in France no problems,I suspect the the problem may be to do with the caravan registration documents as it was a used van.

Showers, big bathrooms and big kitchens are a UK quirk in caravanning; On the EU mainland they're not so bothered - perhaps because sites there tend to have restaurants and they use the showers on site.

We bought our (French) Sterkeman in Germany ... after extensive searching.

For me the link goes to Motorhomes but I got caravans after a bit of fiddling. They are restricted to 2018 Hobby / Sterckeman as far as I can see but I don’t have any German knowledge. Too new and expensive but thanks for the info Kelper.
