I have the pleasure in saying that we have just purchased our 1st caravan.
We started just the 2 of us with a nice big 10 man tent. when we had the kids we changed to a conway corniche trailer tent and then to a pennine pathfinder 600dl folding camper.
Well, to carry on our little upgrading pattern, we have just purchased a 2005 Bailey pageant series 5 provence.
The wife has had caravans growing up but not me. So a new adventure on my side.
We pick it up Saturday and due to me only passing my driving licence in 2002, my dad will be driving it back in wait for me to pass my b+e test!
So i will now be looking at this section and not the folding camper part!
Hi Marg6.
We have purchased a 2005 Bailey pageant, series 5 provence. Its a 5 berth with the proper shower cubicle in the bathroom.
We have got a 09 Vauxhall Antara S, 2l CDTI. It will pull up to 2t so fine for the towing.
Hi richardandjo2010. Hopefully we will enjoy it as much as we did in the folding camper. Great for the kids to be outdoors and have the space to play.
It might be a good idea to join the Caravan Club as their handbook covers a lot of information as does their web site especially on weights including nose weights and an outfit matching service.
Hi misterg, we are part of the caravan and motorhome club already.
marg6, its based on the max possible for both, so 2505kg for the car and 1420kg for the caravan. 3925kg overall. So sadly, the b+e needs to be taken. Although i'd be happy to not take it, the wife does not want to risk it and is set on me taking the test.
The antara will tow up to 2t which i thought was very good.
yes I know its for the max possible weight and yours according to the info I was looking at isn't as heavy as you seem to think, unless you have taken that info from your cars vin plate?
Not the case Marg6, sorry. The driving licence requirements are based on maximum permissible weights of both the car and caravan combined. There's no way that 1795kg is the fully loaded weight of an Antara - that's more likely to be either the mass in service (unladen weight) or the kerb weight (which may or may not include an allowance for the weight of the driver). The maximum permissible weight is going to be closer to 2400kg and thus definitely require a B+E licence extension.

and that is what im trying to get the poster to double check on, using the info off his vin plate rather than off online means and I can assure you that an antara is no where near 2400kgs fully loaded!
