Hi does anyone know the definitive answer to this question about Campsite closures due to COVID19, I was booked for 9 nights over Easter and as the site has closed as per government guidelines and I agreed it should, the site owner refuses to refund any moneys, she will only offer a credit note to that value and gives us 2 years to use that credit note, however even if we book the same period in 2021 if the site fees increase ( looking at this site it will) we will still have to pay the additional cost. is there any government link or law that will force this site to refund our money now? as one may appreciate I cannot book holidays that far in advance in my workplace but this site insists I have to book now or miss out.
It’s really tricky this one. We were offered a rebook or refund by Glen Nevis Which I think was good of them. We will take the rebooking. I suppose they could say it’s act of god or government orders to refuse refunds. I know this will not go down well with some people.
I personally am worried that a lot of nice particularly small campsites may not survive this.
It would not be nice for us to loose the money we have paid upfront for our holidays but if we all loose a little and it lets the sites we all enjoy still be there it could be worth it.
All in all this situation really is horrible and a great many things have no good choices.

Hi
We booked with Haven for the 2nd week of Easter.
2 week back they emailed and asked if i was happy with the reduced program on offer at the park, or would i like a refund.
I asked for a refund which they stated could take a couple of weeks.
So still waiting at the moment and will update when i have the refund.
Campsites have HAD to cancel bookings due to the coronavirus outbreak which the legislation to close all campsites came from the order of the government so legally all cancellations should be reimbursed on those grounds disregards what the site owner considers their policy or not. They could offer to move the nights booked to a later date but as nobody can predict the future of the outbreak that option is not really viable under the circumstances. However, if you are a member of either the Camping & Caravanning Club or Caravan and Motorhome Club I think you will find they can offer legal advice but that would probably only apply if the booking was one of their certificated sites that didn't comply.
I had 5 nights booked over Easter and put a 50% deposit down but the campsite reimbursed mine immediately without question.
Hi your so right the terms say no refunds what so ever, however I would have thought that was if I had to cancel not them even though it a government decision, I would have thought there would be government policy for this COVID19 even so that the customer is not out of pocket
thats the kind of response I would have expected from any reasonable company wanting a customer to return. my site (who I dare not mention the site name in case she refuse to let me use the Credit note at all) she was so rude when i called to discuss this and told me why should she be out of pocket, but does not care that I will be.
Hi unfortunately I am not a member of any camping organisation, and your right she did offer a booking with my credit note from 2021, but who could book a holiday that far in advance in there workplace and the site owner put pressure to re-book regardless as the booking for 2021 are being taken already, if you can believe her, she even called me a liar at one point telling me I must have agreed to these terms, but no terms could have taken COVID19 in to account. firstly she even have a 5 day period to make a re-booking. totally unprofessional and un-business like and a bully. I am looking for some link to a government ruling on this or a link to a legal ruling as nothing I say will sway her and as she talks over you its difficult to make a case verbally.
Do you have a household insurance policy that includes free legal advice?
There are similar threads on the Campsites and Caravan Parks in the UK page on this forum which may help.
If you paid by debit card or credit card you may want to consider a
charge back or section 75 claim on the grounds that the campsite is in breach of contract.
Personally if a campsite owner had acted that way with me or been rude to me on the phone I doubt if I'd want to use that campsite again anyway. There will always be the odd person who will still use this situation to their own end.
Make sure you have a record of everything if you can, so no more phone calls, send emails and then you have evidence, go over everything again in the emails, you never know she may respond differently!! unlikely I know.
Tell her that her T&C's are for you cancelling due to illness etc, this is her cancelling your booking so she needs to refund, if not threaten small claims or link any legal blah you can find.
Or if you're happy to rebook, book in for Easter next year.
Would think the campsites will get very busy when we're out of this, especially school holiday times.
Maybe Martin Lewis or someone similar can reply to your query.
Good luck.

I agree it sounds unbelievable the way the owner is handling the situation. Sounds like a place I would have no desire to visit.
If that’s how she treats her customers she does not deserve to have any.
I had said in a previous post and still do feel for the campsites in a big way as this will be devastating some of them. However the attitude described of this one is a disgrace and I don’t know how she expects to run a customer hospitality type business like that.
It’s sad to say that at a time we should all be pulling together the worst of quite a lot of people is coming to the fore.

Can you use the refund to book a future date with the condition that you can change the date later to suit work holidays etc.
I suspect there will be a great shortage of site availability next year. When this is over everyone will want to go away and will most certainly not be able to go abroad.
Having that booking maybe a godsend.
It's also wise to consider the impact of this on sites. If many go under we might live to be sorry.
Hi yes my worry is two fold one as I said booking a holiday so far in the future to get that time off and as you say having to gamble that the site will still be in business. however having been treated this way by the owner I really dont want to stay on her site as a matter pf principle and would rather pass on my funds to some site owner more deserving
