This is a bit of a general response to many OP's and contributers to other's post who repeatedly ask the question or postulate. Easier to post this than respond multiple times to individual posts.
Today (11th May 20 at 3pm) the CAMC (Caravan And Motorhome Club) have issued a updated statement in response to yesterday's Government revision of lockdown rules. It is a large dose of assumption, but they are working on the premise that camp sites will be allowed, subject to protection rules, to reopen in July this year.
So, if we don't all cock it up by ignoring common sense and Gov rules thereby causing a second spike in infections, we may see a return to our much missed lifestyles in the not too distant future. Fingers and toes firmly crossed for a positive decision.
If the road map goes well, we will be ok.
As you stated " if we don't all cock it up by ignoring common sense and Gov rules thereby causing a second spike in infections, we may see a return to our much missed lifestyles in the not too distant future. Fingers and toes firmly crossed for a positive decision."

Unfortunately, even if units are kept over two metres apart (as they should be anyway) there will still be the problem of using facilities at campsites. Would you want to use a shower someone else has used, or wash your face in the sink, or sit on a public toilet seat?
Caravans and campervans may have sufficient facilities on board to be self sufficient but tenters may struggle.
Whilst campsites might open again I am sure many tourist attractions will remain closed unless they can create a means of keep potential crowds 2 metres apart, so you may find your camping holiday just that...a few days sat in a field watching other campers sitting in a field.
What about families with children on campsites? Can anyone rely on their children keeping to social distancing rules? Children will want to play with other children on sites, it's only natural. Even some adults aren't that responsible that they respect all the rules.
Chatting online this afternoon with other members of the volunteers committee of the Heritage Railway I volunteer on, the general consensus of opinion was that it was unlikely we would re-open this year. I certainly hope that isn't the case, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is. There is no way we could enforce social distancing on the trains but still cover our running costs, let alone make any money. I would think the same thing would apply to many other tourist attractions.

I am in sad agreement with you. We all really want everything to open up again but sadly I don’t see how it can work. When you see the amount of people in parks and so on breaking the rules of lockdown I can only imagine what it will be like when restrictions are lifted.
I deal with people in Germany on a daily basis at work and they are saying that the virus is spreading there again worryingly fast since lockdown was relaxed.
I don’t want to be negative but there is still no vaccine or cure so as far as I can see nothing has changed. The only thing making the death rate fall is we are not mixing.
I wish I had the answer but sadly no one seems to. But I think anything leisure related will be last thing to be opened up as will be considered low down on what is essential.
It really sucks and I would dearly love to be proven wrong but that’s how I see it going.
Kind regards
Davy
Unfortunately as folks can't go abroad for holidays, they will stay in Britain. English places will be completely overwhelmed especially if Wales and Scotland don't open up with us.

You may be right Navver.
I was speaking to a friend who's daughter works for a local caravan dealer.
They have sold quite a few vans on line the past few weeks and the service dept is getting them all ready.
So we may, just have quite a few new caravans, motor homes and campers coming over the horizon this summer!!

Doubt that sites will be overwhelmed as the majority of people are responsible and put lives before their own enjoyment.
I think there will be more self contained units on campsites such as caravans and motorhomes who don't have to use the public facilities. There may be the odd tent if they have bought a porta-potty but certainly not ideal and I think I would sooner stay home.
I spoke about going camping again with a mate, who doesn't go camping, and the first thing he said was that he wouldn't advise it if I had to use public facilities. He is right and I think I have developed a bad case of OCD with regards to contamination
I won't be going on any campsites until the facilities ARE open. Only that way will I feel it is safe.
Incidentally, we went out this morning to take the car for a run as it hasn't moved in weeks. In our 70 minute drive we saw one caravan being towed, and one motorhome parked in a field.

We also went out for a drive this morning. It is the first time we have left the village since the beginning of March...I even remembered which foot pedals to use! Nowhere near the usual amount of traffic on the roads and I didn't see any caravans or campervans. A few cyclists, horse riders and walkers.
Now there's a thought...buy a backpackers tent and a horse...no need for campsites
We would hope to use our van in the autumn, by which time hopefully the schools will have reopened.
Not too bothered in the immediate future as I suspect demand will be very high if they do open.
