In our new caravan our bathroom does not have a separate shower instead it has a wet room with the shower in the same room as the toilet and wash basin. We have not used our shower yet, so not sure how wet it will get when in use but just wondered if anyone has discovered any ingenious ways to prevent the whole room becoming saturated and also how to stop any water possibly escaping from out of the bottom of the wet room door?

surely there is a shower curtain? that pulled across the toilet and the door should keep it contained, just remember to remove the loo roll tho as the damp makes a right mess of it, and for you blokes! REMEMBER TO DRY IT ALL, nothing worse than sitting on a wet toilet seat! lol

There is usually a shower curtain to keep the water from the door. You have no chance of preventing water getting all over everything, due to the size of the room.

As said there should be a shower curtain; however when we had that arrangement we found that the curtain clings so we replaced it with a much heavier duty plastic curtain from, I think B&Q. This was also longer than the original and prevented water running around the toilet. We also have a window vac in the house so we take that in the van of we know we are using the shower.

No! There is no shower curtain in our wet room unfortunately. I will have to put one up somehow. Any suggestions of a simple and easy way to do this?

Stick on hooks on the walls?

In our Bailey Ranger the shower curtain goes across the toilet area and there is a gutter near the bottom of the door to stop the water getting out.

When I was looking at vans to buy I made a very concious decision NOT to get one like yours as I just couldn't see a way of keeping shower water under control, and didn't fancy the cleaning up in every nook and crannie after a shower. The ones with shower curtains were just ridiculously snug for a bloke my size, and I'd end up wrapped like a Egyptian Mummy in the curtain, opted for a van with proper bathroom and full size shower cubical for ease of use and cleaning.

As to what you can do to minimise mess, depends on your actual layout (you don't specify your van anywhere - always useful when seeking advice), does the shower head pull out/extend from the sink, and is the sink over/near the toilet etc. You could perhaps use one of those extending curtain poles that wedges between walls (no need to make any fixing holes in ceiling for curtain track!) to hold a shower curtain to at least minimise soaking toilet area, something like this:
https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-silver-no-fix-curtain-pole-100-150cm/p/0492607
Relatively easy to fit and remove each time you need a shower if need be, so doesn't have to be in the way for other uses of the bathroom.

Hopefully drain hole is opposite side of cubical to door, so pitch van with a slight slope away from door to encourage any water to drain away from any gaps at bottom of door. Some vans have sliding/concertina doors that have a channel at the bottom that does act to contain water in the cubical to a degree. The amount of water that comes from caravan showers is considerably less than domestic showers, so unless you have the slope of the van wrong or an obstruction to the drain (even standing on the drain hole to block it!), you really shouldn't get a great depth of water in the floor tray, splashed water will be your biggest problem.

Good luck.

To stop the shower curtain "ballooning in" and clinging to the person showering I've sewn curtain lead weights to the bottom to weigh it down to the floor.

Thank you everyone for your replies, it is much appreciated.

We are new to caravanning as prior to buying this caravan we have owned various large motorhomes for the past 15 years. Sadly health issues has meant my husband has lost the C1 part of his licence, so driving a large motorhome is now no longer an option and we do not fancy changing to a small motorhome, so a decent size touring caravan was our preferred alternative.

The van we have purchased is a brand new Hobby 620CL. It is an absolutely beautiful and exceptionally well built van, built especially for the UK market and we are absolutely thrilled to bits with it. It ticked every box for us in what we were looking for in a caravan and the wet room was our only compromise. Ideally we woukd d have preferred a separate shower but the vans we looked at that had that option, just did not impress us in so many other ways. We will mostly use onsite facilities and so the shower in the van will only be used when onsite facilities are not available, so if we had to compromise on anything, then for us personally a separate shower was top of the list of what we could manage without!

I cannot say I really fancy the shower curtain idea as past experience of those things have not been particularly impressive and I hate they way they wrap themselves around you and cling to you like a leech!!

Thanks again for your tips and I will let you know what we decided to do once we have tried out a few of the suggestions.

sorry to be the one that asks this, but what vehicle are you using to tow that caravan with? as the caravan weighs 1900kg i would think you well into 4x4 types, which if as you say your hubby cant drive anything due to loss of c1 catorgy he would be exceeding with that combination

I think if you want to shower in your caravan then buy one with a separate shower cubicle. If you prefer to use campsite facilities then get a caravan with just a toilet & you will have more room.

Important when buying a caravan to get exactly what you want & don’t have extra equipment you will never use because it is just dead weight weight & extra cost for no reason.

Not bothered about showering in the caravan but it’s useful to have some kind of showering facility for times when you don’t have onsite facilities to use such as if you are at a rally or music festival etc.

We absolutely love the caravan we’ve purchased - it’s stunning so we are very satisfied with our choice of van and we’ve definitely no regrets but like I asked in my original post, If anyone has any ingenious suggestions for minimising the clean up after using the shower in the wet room then I’d be interested to hear what they have come up with.

It’s not a big issue - more a curiosity as to how others use their wet room shower.

When we had a caravan with that type of shower set up, we added extra amount of shower curtain, so that we could use clothes pegs to holditt back to various attachments in the room, thus preventing it wrapping itself around you. Why not just stand in the shower room and have a look to see if there are any components you could use to hold the curtain back, perhaps even sew some ribbon loops to go over handles.
