Would learned members please give their opinions on whether to choose a van with an end bathroom and middle island bed against an end bed and middle bathroom. What are the considerations, pluses and minuses etc
We have end bathroom and was fancying end bedroom when we change caravan, but apparently you can't put anything under an end bed as it affects the noseweight. Don't know how true this is.

Hi
We have end Bathroom and Fixed bed to Right Hand side.
Plenty storage space, and access from outdoor locker.
I have seen a locker on the back of a van before, but not sure if that was access to under a end bedroom storage area, think it was a Bailey but not sure which model.
We have transverse island with good storage underneath and end bathroom, we have also had fixed bed to rh side also good storage.
The trend nowadays is definitely island, in fact some manufacturers have stopped doing the side fixed bed.
End island will give you weight problems re storage.

I love my mid bathroom and end bed. My husband is a very early riser (usually 5.30am) so he can get up, go into the front of the caravan, close the bathroom doors and there is a really good buffer between him and me as I continue to sleep peacefully down the back! Our previous caravan was a rear bathroom and as soon as my husband got up, the noise of him making coffee and then all the lights being on etc woke me up every time.
Mrs Bonce, we store heavier things under the foot end of our rear bed but only put light stuff at the very back. At the end of the day, a Thetford toilet is pretty heavy and that is right at the back of a rear bathroom caravan so not much difference.
we have end bathroom and side fixed bed, but what we do have is a proper sliding wood door, this stops all sound in the front of the caravan disturbing those in the bed.
as for thetford toilet being heavy?? erm only if you have it full and travel with it full, which would be a rather silly thing to do.
the bathroom at the back means we dont have to compromise of the size of the shower or the space for when you go to the toilet, in fact in ours we have the shower, sink loo, wardrobe airing cupboard and 2 drawers under a full length mirror and still room to use it as a dressing room
I suppose the adantage of having the bathroom in the middle is that if you have two sleeping up front as well as you, then they can use the bathroom without disturbing you.

This has to be the best configuration. Especially if theres more than a couple using the van. I knew a bloke with an end bed, and with a shower/loo in the middle, but they were split to either side. This meant someone could use the loo whilst the shower was occupied. Not sure if its still available?

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I suppose if there is only ever one person or a couple sleeping in the caravan, then because of the storage situation an end bathroom might be better, but for a family I would definitely want the bathroom in the middle. It separates the sleeping accommodation for better privacy, and allows occupants of either end of the van to access the bathroom without disturbing those sleeping at the other end.

Yes, still available, in fact I think that's what the majority are.

Thankyou for all your informative responses. Never considered the storage issues, so as there will only be two of us most of the time I am learning towards an end bathroom. Once again many thanks
We had an Elddis with a centre toilet and shower, one on each side of the caravan. We've now got a Coachman with an end bathroom and a transverse island bed. We both prefer the new layout, it makes the caravan seem much larger and I can be lazy in the morning and still chat to the boss while she carries out her domestic duties.
I tend to carry a lot under the bed as well and I don't have to be so fussy about weight distribution now. It's just the two of us mind, I can fully understand the benefits of a centre split if you're sharing the space with others.
Most of my storage capacity is under our fixed double bed with toilet next to it, weight distribution hasn't been a problem because we store bulky but light items there, we have access too from the locker which is handy, especially when setting up.
That being said, Mrs Onion would like a middle toilet and shower next time for when we have relatives stay over. The access from both sides seems the best idea, plus she wants bed access from both sides too. I am worried that all this would compromise our current huge living space.
Dave.
