hi,
today i called into my local calor gas depo, just for a barbecue part.
i asked ,whilst i am here whats the price of the 15 kg calor exchange bottle.
he said 40 quid when we have any , but we dont.
oh i see says, i.
we dont have any of the other sizes either, butane or propane.
only bottles we have is, the large propane "static caravan type" bottles.
and we have a waiting list with 200 names and numbers on, for when we do get some in.
reason was due to covid ,and shortage of workers and drivers, also the one of the calor factories was hit by lightning, and burnt down
didnt give me any indication when any supplies were due, lets hope its before our first booked trip in may

That's going to put the cat amongst the pigeons this summer with all the newbies joining our ranks. I too am a Safefill convert but hope this news, if it is confirmed, doesn't result in folk panic buying, that really does nobody any good.

I did the exactly same and for the same reason too. I thought it was the best option for us rather than going down the Safefill route as we don't use that much gas but just needed to be able to obtain a refill when required.

Yep.
I probably use a bit more gas than you, as we go to quite a few festivals over the year, so fridge on gas most of the time.
The refills are a little more expensive but are readily available.

I’ve looked to go down the Safefill route but I can’t justify the price for the bottles.
I only use around 1x 6kg bottle of gas per year, it would take a long time to recoup the cost of a Safefill bottle.
Flogas is more expensive than Calor!

We are 100% leccy apart from the cooking on the bbq.Even then, a 6kg bottle lasts a good few months. I dont know what some folk do with their gas, the number of refills they seem to get through.

I was once given a free, full 13kg butane bottle. I used it for the best part of 3 years on and off, then sold it half full for a tenner when i got sick of the weight of it.

We’re working hard to respond to high levels of demand and deliver gas quickly and safely. The severe storms have impacted our service level and we are working hard to recover from the issues caused. Read our full statement here.

Service Statement
The severe storms have impacted our ability to deliver gas safely, at full capacity, over the past week. We are working hard to recover from the issues caused as soon as possible. We are continuing to prioritise delivery of gas to those most in need.

The national shortage of specialist qualified HGV drivers in 2021 and the ongoing COVID pandemic has resulted in a backlog of orders for us to fulfil.

We have now recruited our normal level of winter drivers and are continuing to recruit additional drivers to deal with increased demand. With the continuing impact of Covid-19 and the surge in Omicron cases across the UK, some of our operational colleagues, including drivers, are having to self-isolate, which means we continue to see an impact on our service.

Bulk deliveries

We’re currently experiencing high levels of demand and our phone lines are extremely busy, with calls taking longer than usual to answer. We’re prioritising our vulnerable customers and emergencies, including gas run-outs.

If your enquiry is non-urgent, we recommend calling back at another time. Please bear with us and accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused by longer waiting times.

If you’re on our auto-ordering service

Please be assured that we have enough gas for all our customers and our teams around the country are working hard to deliver to you safely.

We’re monitoring your tank’s gas level but we ask that you also keep an eye on your tank’s gauge if you are able, and only contact us if your tank reading reaches 10% or below.

Please see our help and support area where you can find useful information which may help with any questions you may have.

If you order your own gas

If you’re an on-demand customer who orders their own gas, please order when your tank is showing around 25% so we can schedule your delivery. Please allow up to 21 days for delivery at this busy time. Our delivery timescales can be found here.

Gas cylinder delivery and collection

We’re currently experiencing gas cylinder availability issues due to higher demand, restricted supply, global shipping disruption and ongoing resource challenges. Availability is evolving constantly but please be aware that some cylinder sizes are temporarily unavailable or limited to the exchange of an empty cylinder only.

Our Calor Centres are permanently closed to the public, but we still provide a delivery service, for both the collection and supply of gas cylinders. Please call your local Calor Centre to arrange this.

Customers wishing to return a gas cylinder, please contact your local Calor Centre, who will be able to advise accordingly.

You can also exchange or buy a new cylinder from your nearest retailer. We recommend calling before travelling to one of our retailers to check availability and opening hours.

For all information regarding Returns, Refills and Exchanges please see our Gas cylinder area.

Gas cylinder constraints

We apologise for the inconvenience you may experience and we’re working hard to increase our supply. Whilst we continue to increase the number of cylinders in circulation, we’re also encouraging customers to help us by returning any empty or unused cylinders to improve availability.

Social distancing and safety measures

To enable us to maintain our infrastructure and service of supplying fuel, we have instructed our drivers and engineers to reduce and restrict the amount of contact they have while completing their duties. This will mean that, where possible, deliveries and engineering work will be made without announcing arrival and without any customer contact.

We will not be requesting customers to sign for the delivery and will simply note the name of the customer receiving delivery on the delivery system. Our delivery drivers will not pass a handheld device for customers to sign after delivering. For bulk customers, we will detail the serial number of the tank on the delivery note to show the driver has physically been to the tank to make the delivery.

Whilst our driver or engineer is at your home or business, they will wear gloves throughout. Our frontline teams have all been briefed on social distancing requirements and will maintain a 2m distance from others throughout their time on site. We respectfully request that you also keep the same distance.

I have also looked at the Safefill and Flogas options, as other have said I don't use enough to justify the cost.

I have stuck with calorlite and currently have have 2 bottles (one 3/4 full and a full one). I exchanged that later this weekend from a local supplier with good levels of calorlite in stock.

We don't use that much gas, but at under £10 to refill a 7.5kg cylinder we have recouped the cost of the cylinder as we bought ours in 2017. We see no necessity to carry two cylinders if the one is refillable.

We use the 7kg butane Calor bottles, and currently have one 75% full and one full one. If we can't get a refill for the next two years it won't be a problem. The amount we use, what we have will probably last us for 3 years at least. We only use it for cooking now.

No idea how some people use so much gas, we have had the same 6kg propane bottle for 2.5 years and probably done about 11 weeks away in that time
