Hey,
I'm new to the Forum, but looking for help or some advice.
I've brought a Bailey Ranger 550/6 2004 model.
When I plug it into the power with a power cable, I can't get power at all? The lights wont work, the sockets wont work absolutely nothing at all. But If I put it on battery it only powers the lights and no sockets. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Could it be a fuse gone? Or something more complicated?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Mrs Davis x

The battery won’t power the sockets.

As blueexpo has already said, the 12 volt battery only supplies 12 volts to the lights and water pump. The 230 volt system powers the fridge, water heater, room heater and battery charger.

Have you checked the fuse box to make sure the trips are all switched on?
Are you sure that the socket you are using is working?
Can you try different sockets and leads to isolate the problem?

Let us know how you get on.

Haha OK sorry guys we are newbies haha
All trip switches are on we checked all that first.
Yes the sockets worked when we plugged the power cable in, put a phone on charge it worked for about 5-10 seconds then stopped. Our power lead is working as we put it to our old caravan and it powered that straight away. The fridge won't even power up nothing at all. No power even on the volt dial thing. Is it worth trying to change all the fuses in the fuse box? Next to the fuse box is a plug in a socket would that have anything to do it the fuse box? If so could it be the fuse in that plug?

Thanks for replying guys and girls x

Hi Selina, the fuses are usually on the 12 volt side of things, the mains only normally uses circuit breakers (trip switches). It may be worth turning the main circuit breaker in the caravan's consumer unit off and on again. Sometimes they can look like they are on, but they have in fact tripped.

Colin

I wonder why that was cut. As long as the fuse box is ok it just needs to be rewired, it should be a fairly easy job if you have enough spare cable but if you are in any doubt it's always better to get a competent, qualified person to do the job.

At least you've found the problem, it's certainly not what I was expecting.

Very wise decision to use a qualified electrician. There may well be a reason why the cable has been cut.

Seems a very strange course of action by the previous owner, cutting the cables. If there is a problem why not just disconnect it, or better still, fix the problem!

I would certainly recommend getting a professional electrician to look at the entire 240volt system if you don't feel competent to do it yourself, or don't have the necessary test equipment.

As others have said, the battery won't power the sockets, only low voltage stuff like lights and water pump.

Colin

You might find that two lights in the front two corners of the lounge might be mains operated.

Doesn't make sense, does it? Why would anyone do that? Seems like deliberate vandalism, hope you get it sorted soon.
