Anyone recently insured a caravan above 25 years old.I would be glad of any advice (it's an Abbey GTS 212 1992/1993).I have been busy on renovations.I have many images of the work and updates I have carried out
and intend to post them on the maintenance section ,Gary
It depends upon what value you put on the caravan whether or not it is worth insuring.
I never insured mine for the last few years I had it as I was prepared to take the loss if the worst happened.
Bear in mind that even if it were a total loss the insurer will only pay out what they consider is a fair market value.

If a member have you tried the CAMC? May be worth joining as in addition to insurance you can use CLs and also get a breakdown service policy with Mayday.
We use all 3 of the above, but if you only want insurance, I think other companies would be cheaper than CAMC. I have seen Ripe advertised, but no idea about them.
The CAMC is the cheapest for our new van and was for the last two as well.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I seem to remember looking up Ripe some time back and finding that they have an age limit. They will only insure caravans up to a certain age and mine was way over that.
It is definitely worth insuring a caravan of any age, in my opinion. For me it's all about covering third part risks. My caravan is probably not worth much more than £1,000, if that, but what if I was next to a motorhome worth £100,000 and my caravan caught fire and it severely damaged the motorhome? No way my pocket would cover the cost of repairing the motorhome which is what I would be expected to do if my caravan wasn't insured. I don't really want to be left without a caravan anyway, whatever mine is worth. I had a very old one stolen once before, probably for scrap as it wasn't really worth any more than that. It wasn't insured so I couldn't replace it.
My current caravan is insured with ClubCare through the C&CC. It cost £79.40 this year, exactly £1 more than it cost last year.

It would be up to the owner of the motorhome to prove negligence on your part.

Maybe so, but for the sake of £79 I have peace of mind. If it came to any kind of legal dispute £79 would probably buy me about 10 minutes of a solicitor's time and anyone who can afford a £100,000 motorhome would obviously have much deeper pockets than mine. We all know that money talks in this country. You can be clearly in the right, but if your opponent is richer than you, they will probably still win.

Not true. It would be up to the insurer of the other unit to prove negligence and if they win, you are deep in the proverbial.
