Can anyone advise on which generator to buy of a reasonable price. i am intending to do some weekend rallying

I brought a Wolf generator two stroke from Screwfix It OK but a little noisey it only cost about £70 so cannot moan and only brought it to top up the battery and use at home if we have a power cut to run the Gas heating to heat up a Tank of water. If i had the money i would buy the small Honda generator

Hi Choco, Without a doubt The best by miles ....Honda ex650 very quiet(for a Genny) ! You would be better off buying a good used one off eBay like I did...Fantastic Quality...Built to last for years....Floyd.

Hi
I have the Honda 1000 best by far , I have had it a few years , never let me down don't use it much these days as I don't have my caravan now .But when camping with no hook up it comes in handy.
The newer ones are lighter but that means easier to carry off .
I always lock it up.

Hi, yes you should be considerate, BUT..A generator used occasionally during the day would hardly be noticed amongst most other daily noise and if you think you have a use for one BUY ONE..even though this thread will attract a lot that will treat you like a leper even a small two stroke (noisiest type) that is screened by a windbreak imoh is acceptable during the day for short periods.and one of the hondas or kawasakis are quieter than some onboard water pumps...

What seems to happen is that vanners with generators tend to use their generator in a position in which the noise is the least obvious for them. The reverberations however carry to the neighbours for whom the noise is extremely annoying. There are everyday noises on a campsite that are OK. For me, generators should be banned.

Hi, I have a powercraft made by wolf it's a 750 and is not as quiet as a honda but was only £49.99 ideal for power cuts and will charge your battery and run a tv, But will struggle with a heating appliances, and I have used it a couple of times on rallies with a generator 'tent' From ebay this keeps it dry and soundproofs it to a degree and only it weighs approx 15kg, And to be honest people have commented that it was not as noisy as they thought and they had been led to believe, My friend has the digital honda and its only a gentle hum, But was over £600 its a lot for what it will power there are others in between so it depends on what ££ you have in your pocket.

We had a generator as we do a lot of weekend camping and also full week rallying with no electric. Last Christmas my Daughter and Son in Law gave us a Solar Panel for Christmass and it is brilliant. We went to Norfolk for a week in June and it kept our battery fully charged for the whole week. We have sold our genny now.

Hi,

We use the Honda EU10i or EU20i depending on the duration of the trip. If it is a short trip we use the EU10i and it is fantastic, you would hardly notice it is running if you position it correctly. But for longer trips we use the EU20i as it has to power equipment directly and charge the battery up. I would say we grab the EU10 8/10 times as it is so much lighter and does 90% of what we need. They are more expensive but you will still have it in 20 years.

this might seem like a daft question, but can you leave a genny out in the rain, or do you use some sort of tent/box covering, I just cant see an engine and electrical bit out in the rain working for long, but there again they are meant to be outdoors

I've just bought a kipor sinemaster kge1000ti silent genie.I havnt had much chance to use it yet but it looks and sound the same as a honda but a lot cheaper

I have a Madusa 1000watt gennie it gives 900watts constant and 1000watts peak

It also has a 12 volt battery charging system built into it

its powered by a 4 stroke honda engine its not the quietest on the market but then you get what you pay for this cost £125.00 from Makro its ideal for weekends or weeks without ehu

The Kipor generators are getting a good name in australia. If i did not own the hondas i would look at the kipor range.

Most of my caravanning is done at vintage rallies all over the country, I have a Honda EU20i running on LPG Propane it runs three caravans all week from 0700 to 2200 when we switch our fridges to gas, it also charges two mobility scooters (the main reason for the generator) it was not cheap but is so quiet and economical, if you want the best buy a Honda.
