My father-in-law has a 24` twin axle, and I tow a 23` single axel. When loaded correctly etc etc no difference in stability - only small differance I would say is that his does not rock nose-to-tail as much over bumps (although with the stabiliser on thats not a problem!)

As far as I am aware twin axels are barred on Southern Ireland (??) Sites - but he has never been turned away from any British Site yet (although does tend to check the 'vans will fit when booking!)

No one has mentioned that if you have a tyre go on a twin axle it is still stable and you have time to pull over to change the tyre.  We know we had 2 go in France on seperate occaisions and both times pulled off the road to change the wheel.

Raymcm I appreciate that your humour may be lost on me but your ignorance is not alas. Single axle caravan tow perfectly well in fact an incorrectley loaded twin axle would be more dangerous than an incorrectley loaded single, that is just physics. however i am at a loss as to what a gippo is????? is it some humourous attempt at putting the travelling community down and did you actually mean gypo as gypsies may take offence. Just curious.

Wheel thats a round thing with a tyre ... NOT AN AXLE

Monowheel would be a caravan with ONE WHEEL, Monoaxle would be a single axle.

If you cannot see this then you need help.

The fact is that if a big white van towing a geman caravan turns up it will get turned away from most sites because the site owner will be thinking here come the gippo's.

You may be PC, you may think I am not, but I do actually know a few Gypsies, and they do not take offence at being referred to as Gippos, its only the PC bunch and do gooders that THINK they may take offence. The word Gipsy has a culture and heratage associated with it, the word traveller means nothing except maybe someone who does noy have a home ... that is not a Gipsy, and is more likely to offend a true Gipsy than the abbreviation Gippo.

Maybe if the PC brigade have thier way there will never be a Harry or a Dick again ?

not this old gypsy/traveller argument agian. Its all been said before. I think caution should be used when calling minorities by slang, but anyway enough of that!

As far as you saying only 'Gippo types' get turned away - completly wrong, my local site does not allow any German twin wheelers in, whoever may own them. I am also aware that lots of sites will not allow ANY Hobbys, LMC or Tabbert whatever their size. Regardless of who or what tows them. And FYI I tow mine with a white transit van, and dont get turned away, just have to leave the van off the main site.

I agree with jamestopdog.  I know if a site (in the West Country) that will not take any Hobby, LMC or Tabbert vans and when the owner of the site was asked why, HE said (not me you understand) that if they allow these vans on site, it encourages the local travellers to pay them a visit and........the site owner ends up with a  lot of very unhappy holidaymakers with various bits missing from their vans and awnings.  This was his reasoning, not mine you understand, but its his site, he can choose who and what he has on there and presumably is speaking from personal experience. 

Of course, most of the large Hobby, LMC and Tabbert vans are twin axle.

Raymcm how do you find towing your avante with your Smax, we are looking to change our caravan next year and the avante 556 is at the top of our list along with adria's version. we also have the 2ltr 140bhp smax

Your thoughts would be greatly  appreciated
