Why not both? I've been camping for 20 years now, but recently bought a caravan for the young family. Trying to do both caravanning & camping as the kids love it.

Hi

We have had many tents - getting larger as the family grows over the years - they are great but are limited due to the weather but depends if you have electric with heating etc.. the cost is low in comparison to a decent trailer tent, folding camper / caravan etc..

We have owned trailer tents, folding campers and now a caravan with a tent as a back up if anyone wants to go tenting again. I suppose its like all things in life as there are advantages and disadvantages for everything and you would need to make a choice based on cost, storage, use, insurance, how you are going to tow, carry the choice you have made. I always said i would never have a caravan but now we have one!!!

I will never say never again !!! ooppsssss.............

Hope this helps

Hi Lee

We started with a tent for a few years then upgraded to a folding camper and enjoyed it so much we then went to caravan so we could use it all year so why dont you try buying a tent or trailer tent for this year see how you like it if not you could sell it and not have cost you a great deal if you like it you could continue or upgrade to caravan.

Have you thought about a campervan with drive away awning.  We are selling ours (this is not a sales pitch by the way) as we need to change to a caravan due to health reasons - its not that a campervan is unhealthy but hubby and I are not getting any younger and hubby has had a heart attack or two so we need something that we can leave packed up.   A camper is easier and warmer than a tent. We have had our campervan for two years and we have had some fantastic times away in it.  Hubby used it as his car so you don't need separate  big car to tow and you have plenty of space for use other than camping.  The awning gives  you the option of driving away for a bit of sight seeing.  I hope you make the right decision but its not easy is it?  We are still agonising over which caravan to get.

We have a caravan for all of the above reasons and also 2 tents, 1 large, 1 small. We use the caravan the most but the tents get used quite often as well.

We started with a tent and because of the costs involved in getting started in caravanning I would recommend you get a tent to start with too.  You can see how you enjoy camping, how often you can get away etc and if you decide you want the comforts of a caravan, campervan, folding caravan or whatever, you can start saving whilst still camping.

At least you won't spend hundreds or thousands of pounds only to discover you don't like camping.

(As if anyone could not like it!?)

We had tents when the kids were small. Now it is just the 2 of us and we are older (and some say wiser) and we prefer the van. Warm, waterproof, shower and fixed bed. Lights, heater and tv & radio ----- need I say more.

Yes I do --- fridge to keep beer cold!!
