i just signed for mayday, have you had any problems ?

UK breakdown and recovery

Receive a free Green Flag travel first aid kit when you join Mayday online. Only available while stocks last. Please allow up to 4 weeks for delivery.

Mayday is The Caravan Club's UK breakdown and recovery service, specially designed for caravanners and motor caravanners. Operated on our behalf by Green Flag Motoring Assistance, it provides 24 hour cover, 365 days a year, whether you're towing or not.  Mayday covers your car or motor caravan, and touring caravan or trailer tent.

First choice rescue service for Club members

With a nationwide network of over 6000 professional independent mechanics on call, the average callout time is 40 minutes (if they don't reach you within an hour, you can claim £10).

With three different levels of cover to choose from - Comprehensive, Roadside Assistance or Recovery Only - you can select a service which meets your family's motoring needs.

Mayday is exclusive to members (around 100,000 members' vehicles are already covered by this scheme) and cover starts at just £30 for a year.

Double journey cover

Comprehensive and Recovery only options include our Double journey cover, which means that a breakdown need not spoil your holiday. If your vehicle breaks down on the way to a pre-booked caravan site, then Mayday will get you, your car or motorhome and your caravan or trailer tent to site so you can still have your holiday. Your vehicle will then be taken to the nearest garage so that it can be repaired for the journey home. If that is not possible, Mayday will get you and your vehicles back home again after your holiday.

Call the Mayday team on 08007 310 112

No, I am currently with them (2 cars, full policy which is like £130 odd) and not used them but the issue I have is that I also need Euro cover. If I get Mayday this is no Euro add on, and hence by taking a separate good Euro cover, I have to pay like £234 extra for ref pennant.

RAC though through camping and caravan club, with UK and Euro cover in is like £200 odd quid, and thats 2 cars, with home start, relay etc and a decent Euro cover for the car and caravan.

One thing to check for with any breakdown / rescue cover is to check the maximum length of caravan they will take.

Our twin axle Lunar would not be accepted by some as we fopund out to our cost, had to leave van on side of road and recover it ourselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are thinking of using the RAC you would do better by joining the CCC and then joining the RAC, I am told it more than pays for the membership. Personally I use CC mayday, it works for me but then I don't take my car or caravan abroad.

Yeh, I have CCC membership and there is no age of vehicle or caravan length restrictions if you go through them. I think its worth there membership. If I was just thinking of UK cover, I would stay with Mayday, but I am not, I also need European cover thats not like going to be more than my holiday - RAC seem to win. Shame Mayday cannot do it.

Scott,

Our first voyage through France to Northern Spain with friends this year and i am gonna bite the bullet and get RP on top of my Mayday.  Then that gives me peace of mind and more time to look around for next year, probably go like you with RAC for UK and EU.

HI

I have RP last year as a safe guard on my first trip to France. I have taken a look at RAC European and well, they give most of the same options as RP - eg breakdown enroute - take me to site and repatriation if need be and hire car and the cost saving to me is huge.

Broke down in France a few years back, RAC were very efficient got car to local main Ford dealer, arranged hotel for us to stay overnight (car needed parts that the garage did not have in stock), and then collected car next day. Have been with the RAC for about 10 years and can honestly say I have never had a problem with them home or abroad.
