We were looking forward to getting away on Thursday (this weekend) for a few nights, apparently the weather is on the up (well it can't get much lower) but I don't think we will be able to go anywhere as the missus is rough with a very bad cold. It's not just a few sniffles it's a bugger of a cold that quite a lot of people seem to have hereabouts. Oh well, just hope I don't catch it.  Roll on summer! only 3 more weeks or so and the nights begin to draw in again. What a depressing thought.

About Global warming.

Am I in the minority and believe that the weather in any century of any age has patterns of cooling and warming and that the phenomenon is just something that science and its modern sophisticated techniques has seemingly identified  which is now being used by our ever contolling politicians who will use anything in order  to advance their own political agendas ? As for the tv and newspapers they'll tell us anything to grab our attention. Or at 60 am I a complete fool to disregard the doom mongerers?

My old mam makes me laugh, she was 87 a few weeks ago and she's always going on about it. She forgets the days when we were all little kids and she only had coats to throw over us to keep us warm in our beds during winters that seemed to last forever. No central heating in our house in those days just a coal fire and when the money ran out the coal ran out.

In them days we'd have welcomed global warming in our street. Particularly in our house. My poor old dad used to reckon we had no need of a freezer, when they first came out, as we already had one. it was called the parlour.

I fully believe that we have a problem with landfill sites running  out of space and that something must be done about disposing of our waste, particularly the overpackaging problem caused by manufacturers.

What I object to is using the words "global warming" to cover every eventuality.  We get a couple of warm days and the papers and news bulletins are full of it - not to mention politicians jumping on the bandwagon.  A couple of cold days mean that global warming isn't even mentioned.

Just when we have retired on a lower income, we have been subjected to a myriad of stealth taxes - all in the name of global warming.

The general public are to be forced into reducing our contribution to landfill sites by using financial penalties, while manufacturers and businesses are to have a voluntary agreement.  Seems a bit daft to me.

politicians, or as I prefer to call them - lying thieving cheats - are only in business for two reasons. To get votes and to raise money in whatever way, open or hidden, that they can.

Their cleverness comes in balancing how many votes they lose every time they steal another few pounds off us.

There are both for and against opinions on global warming, both sides eminent scientists and historians, but the "for" gives politicians more opoportunities to steal more money from us, so that's what they have gone for.

I agree that landfill needs looking at, packaging and recycling are serious problems for a country the size of ours, and poisoning the planet with noxious gasses (more are produced making cars than are put out by the big, caravan towing cars on the road) needs to stop, but that is just common housekeeping sense.

What we can be sure of is that the lying thieving cheats will continue to lie, steal from us and cheat us (and their wives) at every opportunity they come across.

But, meanwhile, if it is going to be dryer and warmer this weekend we might have a night or so away :-)

During the 11th or 12th century (can't remember which one now) it rained in this country constantly for 10 whole years. It never stopped. It caused famine and everything that goes with it. i wonder what the Norman scientists and politicians had to say about it? They'd blame it on too many bonfires and that fella Robin Hood I suppose.

Good luck!

To be honest we take the rough with the smooth. If it gets too wet and cold we come home. If it's nice and we can sit out of a evening we stay the full length.

Isn't that what camping/caravanning is all about...

We stuck it out. It was not too bad at least we got to sit down and relax. Normally we go off walking but not in that weather. Read a book and chatted to each other and the other folks in the party.  Worst was Sunday night with the van rocking in the wind.  We were lucky as we managed to get the awning down dry, perhaps doubly lucky as the awning survived the winds.

Judas-hill and her OH had at least 22 of us in their awning Saturday night.
