We have a portable DVD player (Comet £199 about 2 years ago), we connect it to the TV in the caravan with a special lead, which we also got from Coment, and show the film through the TV. It runs on both 12v and the mains, luckily we have a socket for both in the tv cabinet in the van. It also plays CDs.
Then when we're fetching the grandkids down from Doncaster we put it in the car and they can watch their DVDs or play Cds on it for the journey. I acquired 2 sets of semi-decent headphones from when we last went on a coach holiday, so they can both listen without driving us bonkers with the noise!
