I sent ours in with a letter from the owners who had not registered it, along with the original certificate which proved it was owned by relatives of the people we bought from and the numpties only went and registered it to the previous owners instead of us despite my detailed letter explaining the situation.  DOH.

Got new Lunar caravan at the beginning of June 07 and no CRiS documentation yet. So e-mailed HPI/CRiS and was informed that they have had no paperwork from dealer yet. When I first got the van, with my caravan paperwork/manuals etc., was included unsigned PDI paperwork, which a copy of, should have been sent back to Lunar. I sent this back to the dealer in the hope that this would be filled in and sent to Lunar. Also I had to request warranty book, which was sent undated and stamped. Again this had to be sent back for them to complete.

Although you are paying new car prices for new caravans the after sales service is very primitive.

I would rather deal with the paperwork than trust the dealer, and having to chase after the dealer all the time doen't inspire me about warranty issues that could come up.

CRiS on their e-mail said once the paperwork was with them the CRiS documents would be sent out quickly.

We did inform CRIS, but could not give them the registration documents because they blew away in the 80mph freak winds we experienced, which caused the accident. (one gust and it was over!)  I can only assume that a prospective buyer is doing a search.  Our van was a complete right off with a twisted chassis, but everything inside was only two weeks old and perfect, so lots to salvage.  It was very sad to go to the caravan cemetary to collect our belongings.   Abbey vans must be well built to  turn over, skid along the road, and then be righted and stay in one piece.  We thought that our belongings would be scattered far and wide when it was put back on its wheels. It took courage to tow again and we don't do wind any more!!

Hi oomin,

Glad you've decided to tow again. We went away last week (2nd time towing for us) with some friends whos been caravanning a few years. Whilst going down the M1 & their van overturned!(the story is quite long to post in this thread) we were in front & saw it in the mirror. The sight of this has totally put me off towing & i'm only a passenger!! We are seriously thinking of selling & going back to tents. Luckily everyone got out unharmed but very shocked. I was just wondering if your car overturned aswell? Theirs didn't & came off tow ball so car was fine. Overturning is my biggest fear ( towing nerves actually make me sick when travelling ) but i always thought the car would go over aswell. Police at the scene said they shouldn't???.
Our friends have decided to finished caravanning after this, we've said maybe in the future they may try again so i was glad to see it hasn't put you off. I'll show them this post.

Good Luck.

We also had problem after problem with CRIS which meant we couldnt insure our caravan for 2 months, we were very anxious during that time... the insuers wouldnt touch us until CRIS sorted the registration transfer from my parents to ourselves

I had to make phone call after phone call and write several letters( inc one from my parents confriming a change of ownership), they cashed our cheque and then couldnt find the payment. In the end I said "Look, after the inconvenience weve already had should we really have to go back to our bank for a statement about the cheque, given thats the only thing now holding things up??"Fortunately the guy on the phone agreed we'd suffered more than enough agro.

They took weeks to answer our letters desoite us sending things the second they asked for them- utter nightmare and given they are the equivalent of the DVLA for caravans they need to seriously look at their procedures.

our car stayed upright, but the caravan remained hitched, and overtook us!!  I saw it go over in the wing mirror, (I was the passenger).  It really was a life stopping moment, and I remember thinking "if there is a lorry behind us, we are dead."  But there wasn't, and we weren't.  The whole episode stayed with us for some time, and we "sat" on the insurance money because we were unsure whether we could tow again.  We chose a completely different caravan to make it easier to forget.  We love caravanning, we love the relaxed lifestyle.  But we still are very careful about towing in the wind.  There was nothing we could do at the time to prevent our accident, it was just that, a freak accident.  Life is like that, always expect the unexpected.  It has made us look at life differently.  Caravan towing is no more dangerous than driving, these things happen, and the insurance company said overturning caravans are not that common given the number of people who caravan.  That said, we always pick up on road reports when a caravan goes over, and our hearts go out to them.  And we always get a wind report!!  Go back to it when you are ready, you will never forget, but it is worth it.

Thanks for that oomin,

"if there is a lorry behind us, we are dead."

I know what you mean, that was there biggest fear, they sat what seem to them ages but prob a second waiting for something to hit them. " 2 lorry drives who saw it swaying straddled the motorway lanes & slowed down with hazzard lights on to stop someone ploughing into them as they ended up facing on coming traffic. We couldn't thank these enough.

Anyway i hope they overcome this & get back into it as they've done it for a long while. I'm still not sure what we going to do yet, probably finnish the year in tent then try again.

We were also told by the police on scene that overturnings not that common but when it does happen the media & anti-caravanners go to town.

Good luck anyway, & thanks, you've made me feel a little more at ease.
