We've just had a few days at Englethwaite Hall in Cumbria - our first CC site.  No showers or toilets but plenty of service points, 16 amp hook up, big, hardstanding pitches and perfect peace and quiet.  We're glad we've joined and will definitely be back.

Our only concern was that at 36 and 37 years old, we seemed to be the youngest there!  There was one caravan that looked about our age but was immaculate and drew many an admiring look!

This site is one of my favourite cc sites, we only stayed there for two nights as a stop off, but what a beautiful place, all the rohdedendrums (sp) were out as it was in June and it was so nice.

.I personally find it hard to understand why some members send Thousands of messages and can't be bothered to post ONE SINGLE REVIEW to help other members choose a site. Anyone translate LOL please?

.

We have only been vanning for a year and havent been anywhere that hasnt already got loads of reviews. So I dont see the point unless I had something extra to add.

I think you have to try a site for yourself sometimes anyway, because one persons holiday is not the same as the next. So I would only comment on the facilities anyway and its already been covered.

Hiya we are now just in our third year of membership, & have only used a CC site once. Not that we have anything against the sites its just that it doesnt always tie in with our plans. But it is worth the membership just for the monthly magazine, & this year we have used the CC for insuring our van, a great deal saved a good £200 on our previous insurers.

Hi - I would say it's definitely worth becoming a member. We are members of both the CC and the C & CC - we have never stayed on any of their club sites yet, preferring private adults-only sites or the quieter CLs or CSs, but the magazines, information, special offers and insurance schemes certainly make it worth paying the membership fees

When we became reborn caravanners we sussed out the CC.
We found that a few CC sites have good facilities. Far more offer basic water/waste/elsan/disposal points and no EHU'S.
Check the members tariff for these and see how attractive they are. OTT springs to mind. We didn't join.
We could manage on one ,but for any stay longer than a weekend we much prefer to use a site chosen from ukcs.
We check the reviews before we book. Some sites have none, some have two or three, and a few have lots.I personally find it hard to understand why some members send Thousands of messages and can't be bothered to post ONE SINGLE REVIEW to help other members choose a site. All the CC sites apart from 1 ( Steamer Quay at Totness ) have electric hook up for virtually all pitches, they are all well cared for and user friendly. The vast majority have toilet blocks and showers.

The CL network is a different proposition, it inlcludes all sorts of sites from the very basic field with a tap, a hole to empty chemical waste, and a dustbin   to beautifully cared for 5 van sides on lawned fields with toilet, showers and electric hook up. But the club has no control over the extra facilities that these sites have, they are owned and run by private individuals.

The tariffs of CC owned sites are competitive with large commercial sites that have the same quality of facilities in the high season, but out of the high season there prices are in the main quite reasonable.

Over 15 years I have learned to trust the cc for the consistantly high standar of sites they run and the general high standard of the CL network.

I only do reviews on comercial sites which i very seldom use these days I do not review CC cl sites or C&CC cs sites because you are supposed to be a member to use them and if you are then your told all about them in the members info as regards is it worth joining 16 days on the gower £73 speaks for its self

Bill,

I think that sums the reason for membership very nicely. I've been a member for over 20 years and can honestly say that the standard in that time has never ever dropped. However, what concerns me and what has dropped is the number of cl's. There doen't seem to be anyway of stopping it. 1986 there were over 4000 cl's now there are just over 2000.

We stayed at Englethwaite Hall a couple of years ago if my memory serves me right

From what I remember it was on the site of the old hall which the CC were obliged to demolish.

It used to be an orphanage and we were told a delightful story of an ex resident who turned up at the site one very long dry summer .

The dry spell had made the outline of the old building visible and this man lay down on the ground and said "This is where my bed used to be".

Priceless
