"In over 40 years of caravan towing I have only experienced 1 puncture - it was a motorway blowout with Tyron bands fitted, tyre was shredded & spread down the mway. No snaking, no damage but was this due to Tyron band? Have my doubts."
Same here, I have never had Tyron's fitted but I have experienced 4 blowouts over the past 35 years. Each time the tyre stayed on the rim, and the caravan didn't react adversely. (Incidently 3 were Dunlop SP's)
How would I know if they worked? I thought the ridge on the inside of the rim was meant to keep the tyre on the rim after a blowout. Have you ever seen the force a Tyre Fitter needs to break the seal when he removes a tyre?
