Something I've never seen before on eBay. I've just attempted to contact this seller via *ask the ask the seller a question about this item* To my surprise it reveals to him your name, email address and also your home telephone number.

I was going to tell him to stick his scam up his jacksie but if they knew where I lived I fear i may get a visit from the Pikey Army.

Other than ring you up, or email you, what could these fraudsters do with your email address etc? I'm bothered now cos I responded to a similar, though far less a "deal" advert, cos I thought the classifieds wouldn't be as dodgy (dur!). Do I have to look out for hacking or identity theft now?

Not only my email address and phone number but my NAME ! I'm in the phone book and he would only have to look in the telephone directory and hey presto !! There's my address. eBay definitely shouldn't reveal to anybody such personal details. Only when there's a firm committment to buy should they be revealed.

Good point.  Why is it that nothing is done about these scammers? I can understand how these dodgy people use ebay etc in the first place, but how come they are allowed to continue trading? Even if you've been alerted and haven't actually been stung, you wouldn't choose to invite these people round, which potentially is what ebay is doing on your behalf.

Pretty simple really, the boxes are marked in yellow - just delete or change your details before you send. To be fair to ebay, the 'ask seller a question' function is there to allow you to do just that - not to let you tell people where to stick their auctions

Ebay don't do this without your permission - when you sign up, you tick the box saying that you agree to their Terms and Conditions - search them carefully and you will find they have it covered!
