That's because neither way is the right or wrong way to do things Jeannie, it is just what suits the individual isn't it.  It currently suits us not to tour, previously I have toured and also had a seasonal pitch elsewhere.  One day we will have a small motor home and then we will tour, Europe and beyond hopefully!  But for now, whilst we have limited time and a need to stay near to home we have gone seasonal.

But for many others who are free to come and go and have more time touring is the answer.

Just goes to show that there never is a right or wrong answer when it comes to caravanning!

The person we got our caravan from told us that we should get a stabiliser bar fitted and we will do but a friend of dh's says that he has never had one.  For us, if it makes it safer we will get one.

I always used a Scott stabiliser when I did tow and in fact was given one with this van so if we ever tow it I will use it.  It does help for sure.

Because (a) we've nowhere to keep it; (2) we dont tow it - if we had to tow it, we'd not use it as much

Just an addendum to the above.   I've been involved with touring caravans since the late 1950s - my parents had a (tiny) Eccles 10' which was basically a room on wheels!!  There were 5 of us in those days.  My hubby and I got our first caravan in the late 60s, which was an ancient Bluebird 15 ft with mahogany fittings and a drop down double bed bought by my dad for £50.  It was seriously damaged by damp in the front window, which my dad repaired for us being a carpenter/coach builder.  We took that old van everywhere - north south east west - when the boys were little.  We had to part with in in the early 80s when the A frame collapsed.  We've continued with caravanning right up to the present day and we've been all over the UK with one caravan or another. 

My hubby is 66 next birthday, I'm disabled with arthritis and osteoporosis.  I can't help him as much these days due to collapsed vertebrae, so he has to do all the packing unpacking awning etc himself.   For us, a seasonal pitch is a must.   It's a lot cheaper than a static; we'd have to have it stored anyway; we can move the van if necessary; we've done the towing bit; we've done the rallying bit; we've taken the kids everywhere; we've taken my mother everywhere when my dad died; we've holidayed in it; we've even lived in it for a while.  Now its our holiday home and retreat, our little home from home......in other words......its an ideal situation ......FOR US!!

There are some cracking sites like Ang and Ken's and this one but they are all just a bit too close to home for us which is a shame.  Especially Ang's one, as it is all year round, we really hate packing up for the winter.  Gotta persuade Holmans Wood to open all year I reckon.

Ali what are the sites you are referring to as we are always looking for sites open all year?

It is Bowdens Crest that I am referring to in that post, in Langport, Somerset.  I only live about 15 miles away from there so too close to home for me but a lot of members on here have left very positive comments about it.

I just can't understand why some people feel the need to take a bingo machine away with them.

When I was a kid we used to make our own entertainment, if we wanted computers then we fashioned them by whittling sticks with our penknives - no matches, we used to rub two cub scouts together for heat and light and we used to play pin the tail on the donkey sanctuary.

We may have had diptheria and rickets but we was happy all the same!!!
