Are the legs almost in a triangle shape? The bunks i have seen and put into place didn't seem very heavy and though the frame is attached to the wall it was only with a small hinge. It appeared to hold its own weight over the other bed by it's 2 sturdy legs. The bunk i want was on ebay item no: 330182057699 (no longer for sale). There is another one item no: 300118498025 being sold by caravan-solutions that is a bunk but that looks like it needs side support so won't suit us.
Hiya, I suppose DH could stand for several things like Doting Husband/Dopey Husband or even D**k Head LOL. But seriously you can download broshures/manuals from makers websites & if you know someone who can weld you could use some box section tubing & hey presto, but you would need to take weight into consideration. Hope this helps.
If you have lockers above the existing seats you will find the headroom is pretty restricted We have that with our bunk, but as we are only 3 it did not matter. We only ever used it twice, once when DD had a friend along and once when my Mum came along. She could not bear to sleep under the bunk, so OH slept there with DD in the bunk above, and Mum and I had the front beds. OH can sleep anywhere!
After that we took it out to save weight, but now we are selling the van we have put everything back in. Just taken some photos for the ad today and the van is looking really nice!
How old are your children? If you have made a big bed at the front would it not be big enough for everyone? Certainly keep everyone snug!
When i showed my dear husband the pic of the bunk he said the same thing! Which got me to thinking that maybe bunks wouldn't be such a good idea! We are not going to go away until next year now so if we wait until the weather gets warmer then an inner tent in the awning will be fine for me and dh. We have an awning but if we were to go away in the van during the winter i think that we'd probably want to sleep in the van. The front bed will hold all of us at a squeeze but my dd got into bed with us last week and i didn't sleep very well at all which put me off the idea of us all sleeping together lol. Older dd wants to bring her friend along at the weekends so obviously we can't all sleep together then but the bed will be big enough for 4 kids. So it looks like we will have to only go away in the warmer month's. We are not into freezing at night lol!
Thanks Jennifer, where are you advertising your caravan? I'd love to see the pics of your van anyway because i love looking at everyone's caravans cos you can get some really good idea's from them lol.
When i put dh it DOES mean dear husband cos he reads this board as much as me lol!!!
Hi Jeannie, we are going to put it on here and anywhere else we can think of. We only get to put up 3 photos here, but we have taken plenty more so we can e-mail them to anyone who is interested. I don't think this is a good time to sell though, we could be better waiting until after Christmas.
The foldaway bunks are OK for younger children as they do have a weight limit, also they are usually not full length, only about 5' 9" I think. DD is tall and she was always complaining that she had to sleep with her knees bent!!
I'd be fine on those bunks as i'm 5ft 4"and sleep on my side anyway lol.
If you can wait until after Xmas or even March time then i'd hang on as the price you will get for your caravan will be higher. So have you put it up for sale on here then?
