I endorse what the others have said about working towards moving him into a bed at home but in the meantime, if space and circumstances permit you may like to try this: When our youngest was still in a cot he too wouldn't settle easily in a bunk. So I purchased a very cheap, basic cot from Ikea, the sort with wooden bars all the way round. The feet of this fitted very conveniently between the slats of the pulled-out rear bunk (with the cushions removed) with the bottom of the cot resting on the slats. It was very stable and secure and meant that the 'door' separating the bunks at the rear of the 'van could still be closed, making a sort of mini bedroom.
