Mice got into our garage recently and chewed a nice big hole in our porch awning (see post on here). We have managed to get it repaired.
Got rid of pesky field mice with POISON and traps baited with kit kat. Worked a treat - No sign of them since but have left the traps in place. Hubby tried to hit one with a lump hammer - without success!! (Traps bought on Ebay for less than £1.50)
Know of someone who had extensive damage to a static van with field mice - all upholstery and electrics chewed and large nests built over the Winter months. An awful mess and the smell was enough to knock you over. As said above, it seems you may have got off lightly.
We leave poison in the locker over the Winter in a little plastic tray - just in case. (Van in storage surrounded by farmland).
Hi, It seems a lot of people have recommended chocolate which is great on traps. Should you find you have a clever mouse that is able to remove the chocolate, try spreading a little peanut butter on the trap, much more difficult for them to remove leading to a greater catch rate.
Good luck and don't forget to set a couple of traps inside your caravan - just in case.

We have something better than poison, our big black tom. And in the loft a dark brown and white weasel. Since he arrived nothing lives near us, no even a snail. I have not seen a mouse for the last few years. We have raccoons in the village, and they eat anything. If you get them into the van then you cant get them out, and they fight to stay put. So if you want to get rid of your mice then you can load my big black tom, and Harry the weasel. But bring two big boxes, and some leather gloves. But joking aside, if wild life is in tact then it cleans itself. If you have a lot of mice then you should have a lot of owls, so please don't poison the mice. My advice is make a place for owls in a nearby church, even in a town.
If you think mice are bad...imagine lying in bed and feel something crawl over your shoulder. On examination it was an earwig and on opening cupboards I found thousands of them. I killed what I could with a rolled up newspaper but coudn't get rid of all of them. I finally got shut when I released one of those greenhouse bombs which kills pests.
Mice love peanut butter, trust me we know. I eventually put my Anti mole sonic device next to the towing arm (they must have been big mice!), never been troubled since, just remember to check batteries regularly!
