we have just come back from our first outing at easter at cleethorpes.

we have a motor mover on the van and i decided to change batteries and low and behold three sets of batteries later it would not would, so we pulled it out of drive and hitched up . no probs towing arived at site, we have a 13pin to twin 7 pin adapter and found that it had been too loose and all casing had smashed on road.

sited van on hardstanding and proceeded to connect electrics ,they wouldnt work trip switch on post needed flicking up. that sorted we then proceeded to attempt to erect the awning for the first ever time, well after struggling with gale force winds hale, snow and rain we got it up 3 hours later. the grass at side of awning was none existant and was just like a mud bath and we had not considered taupalin below the groundsheet so it was like stepping in a mud bath with water seeping through,

by this time the caravan floor was filthy, we then connected the water and turned pump on but water was emptying out of aquaroll quicker than i could fill it.

i knew something was wrong so went checking all sinks etc opened toilet door and found water level in the shower tray a cm short of flooding the van, upon closer inspection the shower head had come off the holder while travelling and knocked the tap on and unbeknown to us the prevoiuse owner had left the plug in under the mat and that is one thing i didnt check.

that over we then went onto the toilet after filling it up we found it wouldnt flush, this waslate saturday so had to wate till tuesday to find a spares/caravan dealer local which we did , he said it would most likely be the pump so after showing me where it was etc i bought one and fitted it and hey presto working, at the same time i got taupalin and put that under ground sheet and got that sorted .

what with waking up to a winterwonderland on sunday we was thinking what a start.

got home saturday and decided to give the motor mover a go again thinking it may of been the battery but it wouldnt go so struggled pushing it up the drive (had already moved the car)

so after some internet searching tried the little reset switch on box in caravan something to do with radio frequencys and now the mover is working.

as for our next trip after all that , well we cant wait !!!!!

what a learning curve lol.

Hi all

ON our first trip in March 2007 we were the only van on the site!  1 of the towing mirrors fell off the car on the way down and smashed to bits!!  We were feeling quite proud off ourselves at getting set up fairly quickly and were outside admiring our work when we discovered we had locked the door behind us with the keys and the dog still in the van. I had to climb in through one off the side windows. I was glad then that we were the only van on the site. To top it all it snowed for 2 days when we were there but we could not wait to get away again when we got home!!

hello....excellent thread !!! our first outing was in a motorhome, 7.4 petrol american winnibago..bought from ebay...disaster..cost £4000 to put right, took her from yorkshire up to Durham for major damp repairs.....first outing...very excited....2 adults,,,4 children...one dog. We travelled 20 miles when my OH said i have no brakes!!! thought he was joking?? NO we hadnt any brakes had to pull over on to the hard shoulder and let it grind to a halt VERY SCARY. This was a bank holiday monday, tow truck came 4 hours later...police on our backs to move it!! kids and dog playing up...tempers frayed!. Tow truck arrives...cant tow us it is automatic, have to take out drive shaft(i think??) policy didnt cover automatics..never thought to check despite giving them details of the vehicle!. COST £300 to tow us 20 miles home, insurance didnt want to know, FINAL STRAW...got it repaired on the way home OH tried to squeeze between a lorry and a car...hit the lorry first..big hole is side...moved to other side..knocked wing mirror off a brand new Golf !!...........NOW SOLD!! got a caravan instead. thankyou for reading my epic story.

 What an expensive nightmare lozzie.

Moral of this is, dont buy before you try. Lots of people trying to make a fast buck everywhere.

Good luck with your caravan & lots of happy holidays.
