You could, of course, fit heating elements to the Truma heater. Talk to Gary at Arc Systems. He will know if it can be done and may even have the Truma parts.

We bought a convector heater, very lightweight/thermostat, we place it in front of the gas fire(we dont use the gas fire anymore) it just sits in front of the trauma, and is so quiet, think it was about £19 form arg*s.

We used to have a Triton and know too well the cold nights. The best thing we had was a Consort Frostfighter electric heater which didn't make hardly any noise apart the the occasional click of the thermostat and was low wattage (450w).New they are about £32 list price but we got ours at a boot sale for a few pounds.
Why not simply leave it on a low gas setting in convection mode without the fan?
The unit is designed to be safely used provided your servicing the unit as recommended. There is no reason having it and not using it and then cluttering up the van with something else.
We got a small oil filled radiator (600W I think) from Dunelm Mills for £12. It's thermostatically controlled and quite small and light to carry around. Only bother taking it in spring and autumn though.
