I think it's because they are far too lazy to cook.

---& I think its because they have been flooded out of their house---they have little prospect of moving back in anytime soon--, no garrantee their unsaleable house wont flood again---& they are stuck in a caravan---not on some nice site where they have chosen to go for a holiday--but in the front garden of their house---in Hull----perhaps we should have a special forum on campsite just for them--we could call it 'camping & caravanning in Hull'--we could help them find the will to live again, then they may be able to enjoy their caravanning like we do & be arsed to cook some nice grub-----

Hello all. We are the same as the majority, cook everything that we would have at home.Probably cook more in the van and enjoy it more, having the time to sit and enjoy the meal. I have a full cooker in the van, steamer and old faithful Sunbeam multicooker that I bought for £9, seems like a hundred years ago but it still keeps going.

I think that depression has probably set in.  They've been living in a caravan for almost a year now and probably hate it.  Billy has got it right - they said what they said because they were flooded out of their home and probably don't know when they will be living in their home again.  Has anyone here experienced that?

Two weeks in a caravan in holiday mode is a bit different to the way they have been forced to live.  Everything must be an effort for them trying to juggle their real lives around in a small space.  They might not even be caravanners.  Lots of families were given caravans to live in as a "temporary" measure.

Considering what they have been through, perhaps we could cut them some slack.

We cook everything but never yet cooked inside the van unless it's the odd small saucepan job. This new van has the full cooker & an extractor fan vent so things might change now. Although, we prefer to keep cooking smells out of the van.

We carry two air cookers, they're thermostatically controlled with timers on them & they're brilliant. We buy a chicken, splay it open & cook it in one, put a bag of roasters in the other or do boiled spuds in a pressure cooker We also take a Beauclaire with the griddle plate & the deep wok like pan, this is a brilliant thing to have but we're wondering if a Cadac might be better.

As a family of 6 with four very active hungry kids, I'm afraid we simply can't afford not to cook our own meals. Eating out would probably shorten our holidays.

As others have said, the folks in Hull are probably brassed off with rather cramped living, and are not used to it.

Last december a group of us cooked a full three course Christmas dinner with all the trimmings for 24 people on three caravan hobs and ovens. It is possible with a bit of careful planning. This easter we had roast turkey and potatoes, chipolatas and bacon rolls, stuffing balls, peas, gravy and cranberry sauce done in one caravan up at Troutbeck in the snow!

Yes i can understand that after all this time that they will be fed up but as someone has said if they plan a meal then it can be achieved.

We just bought a wok so we will be trying stir fry but that doesnt take much cooking does it

I reckon those families might have enough to think about with washing, ironing, homework, showering, getting dressed and storage etc etc in a space smaller than the size of their lounge.  Then they have to go to work/school.

I think I'd be heating up pies as well.

I sat there gobsmacked because we have full roast dinners in ours and over the weekend my OH cooked lamb chops with all the trimmings and the next day he did roast pork.

we do too,but being able to enjoy the experience by choice and being forced into it are not the same i suppose.hope we never have too.
