Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but we are thinking of going down the fixed bed route now the kids are not coming away with us as often. We had fixed bunks for them as it saved so much hassle only having to make hte one bed up.
Im 6' 4" and had a lay down on the fixed bed in a Bailey today at the local dealers and it felt a bit tight.
We would be looking for a new van if we decide to swap and van size isnt an issue im happy with anything as long as it fits the bill. Does anyone have a fresh take on this subject?
As already mentioned if you can sleep with your legs slightly bent then you should be fine.
I am 6ft 6" and we have a fixed bed and our van is based on the sterling eccles sport.
If you think it will be a problem then try a van with a transverse island bed and you will have some space to hang your feet out the bottom of the bed if needed.

I don't think you'll find an island bed to accommodate your height/length.
I'm 5'11", currently have a transverse island bed, Conqueror 645, and if I'm lying stright out, my comfortable position is with my feet just off the end of the mattress. My previous van with a rear island bed, Jubilee Statesman, I can't now remember but I suspect it wouldn't be much if any longer.
With a non-island fixed bed, you'd need to sleep on the outside so that you could lie straight out.
UK built caravan fixed bed length mostly seems to be 1.9mtres which is under 6ft 3" & some only 1.85mtres. I do notice German makes of caravan generally have 2mtre beds which is nearly 6ft 7" so perhaps worth looking at those. Hymer & Hobby both have UK importers, check their websites.
One problem with fixed beds is that if you have to get up in the night the one against the wall has to climb over the other, our last was like that, it was one reason we changed to a Hobby with a island bed, ( and its huge)
I'm 6'3".
I find the idea that I should pay out thousands of pounds and then have to sleep with my legs bent completely outrageous. Its my money, its for the manufacturers to meet my needs, not the other way round.
It does seem odd that manufacturers don't even offer an option for longer fixed beds. Beware of a small caravan with 1.9mtre bed across the caravan if you are over 6ft. It might not sound too bad to sleep with bent legs but my experience is that you wake up with aching legs which is not what you want every day of a holiday.

Fair enough, so you're stuck with a made-up bed across the full width of the caravan!
Best of luck big lads. We have a Lunar Freelander 640 with an island bed. Got tired of climbing over the wife to get out. The bed is 6' 2'' x 4' 4''. I am only 6ft and have to tuck the douvet in at the bottom as my feet end up over the edge. My head is rarely right up to the headboard. It's ok for me but a problem? for taller people. The seating at the front of caravan made to a bed is 6'11'' (across) x 6'3'' but not a fixed bed. Is a 'Hobby' the answer? they have big , across the van beds.
I am 6,2" there is plenty of room in our Peggy. I sleep on the side without the cutaway!
We tried the new Bailey Unicorn Vigo, it has the transverse bed which extens, it is just 6', so my feet would hangover the end.
Shame as we really like the van otherwise. ( Sigh of relief as bank account is safe!)
